Michelle Yeoh is \u201cin shock,\u201d but \u201cnot surprised\u201d that \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d was snubbed by the Academy.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s such a beautiful, well-made movie\u2026 So I was truly, truly very disappointed,\u201d the actress, who played Madame Morrible in both parts of the \u201cWicked\u201d film adaptation, told Variety<\/a> on Thursday ahead of receiving the Honorary Golden Bear at the 76th Annual Berlin International Film Festival.<\/p>\n \u201cI think sometimes the problem is that people think, \u2018Oh, you already got so much with the first one, let other people have a chance.\u2019 But then it feels like, \u2018No, come on!\u201d Yeoh continued. \u201cIt\u2019s such a beautiful, well-made movie.\u201d<\/p>\n Michelle Yeoh addressed \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d getting snubbed by the Oscars in a new interview. Universal Pictures<\/p>\n The actress said she\u2019s \u201cdisappointed\u201d and \u201cin shock\u201d over the Academy\u2019s decision. \u00a9Universal\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n The first \u201cWicked\u201d film received 10 nominations at the 2025 Oscars<\/a>, winning for Best Costume Design and Best Production Design. <\/p>\n But the sequel got blanked by the Academy <\/a>this year.<\/p>\n Even lead stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were left out of the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress categories, respectively, after their joint 2025 nominations.<\/p>\n Even \u201cWicked\u201d stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande were snubbed by the Academy AP<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s such a beautiful, well-made movie,\u201d Yeoh said about \u201cWicked: For Good.\u201d Universal Pictures<\/p>\n Yeoh, 63, told Variety that \u201cWicked 2\u201d deserved nominations, especially in the creative categories.<\/p>\n \u201cPaul [Tazewell] for costume design, hair and makeup. If you compare it [with contenders this year] it should be there,\u201d she stated. \u201cFor Jon Chu, for [cinematographer] Alice Brooks, for the set design.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not the replica of the first one. It\u2019s more elaborate and there are many more new destinations in \u2018Wicked: For Good,’\u201d Yeoh added.<\/p>\n Yeoh previously won the Best Actress Oscar in 2023 for her role in \u201cEverything Everywhere All at Once.\u201d She was the first Asian winner in the category.<\/p>\n The first \u201cWicked\u201d film won two Oscars out of ten nominations Xavier Collin\/Image Press Agency \/ BACKGRID<\/p>\n Yeoh was the first \u201cWicked\u201d star to speak out about the sequel being snubbed Gareth Cattermole\/Getty Images<\/p>\n The 2026 Oscar nominations were unveiled Jan. 22, with \u201cSinners,\u201d One Battle After Another,\u201d \u201cFrankenstein, \u201cMarty Supreme\u201d and \u201cSentimental Value\u201d receiving the most love from the Academy. <\/p>\n An anonymous Oscar voter<\/a> told NewsNation<\/a> last month that they were \u201ccompletely turned off\u201d by Grande and Erivo\u2019s \u201cpromotional performances.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cThey creeped a lot of people out and in their rush to feel authentic, came off as cosplaying,\u201d the Academy member said. <\/p>\n An Oscar voter previously claimed they were \u201ccreeped out\u201d by Grande and Erivo. \u00a9Universal\/Courtesy Everett Collection<\/p>\n Grande and Erivo had many cringeworthy moments during the \u201cWicked\u201d press tours.
