In 2007 the future King Charles saved Dumfries House, a historic Scottish estate, preserving one of the most important Georgian Scottish and English furniture collections for the nation. And then there are the gardens. To bring those back to their full glory, and to tend to them with care, the king turned to Van Cleef & Arpels. In 2023 the maison became the principal patron of the five-acre Queen Elizabeth walled garden, on the Dumfries grounds, and the rose garden within it took its name.<\/p>\n

Floral motifs have long been central to Van Cleef (see the Mystery-set ruby bloom, the Peony clip, that lucky Alhambra), but how is making jewelry like cultivating prize-winning roses? Patience, care, and craftsmanship are key, as is an eye (and a nose?) for beauty.<\/p>\n

The new Flowerlace collection traces its roots back to a series of Art Deco clips, meticulously weaving the movement of a ribbon with the suppleness of a petal. The time-honored technique of lost wax casting creates open space between stone and metal, and the masterful hands in the Van Cleef workshop bring it all to lush life.<\/p>\n
