Nighttime chants of anti-government slogans were reported across several Iranian cities on Saturday night, after exiled crown prince and Iranian opposition figure Reza Pahlavi<\/a> called for a \u201cGlobal Day of Action\u201d to support what he has dubbed Iran\u2019s \u201cLion-and-Sun Revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n

Videos and eyewitness accounts shared by Iran International described chants from rooftops and windows in Tehran and other major cities, hours after large rallies by Iranians abroad voiced support for protesters inside the country.<\/p>\n

Residents across Iran were heard chanting slogans including \u201cDeath to the dictator\u201d and \u201cDeath to Khamenei<\/a>,\u201d Iran International reported, alongside monarchist chants.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The reports came as the Islamic Republic faces renewed scrutiny over its security response to unrest and restrictions on information flows.<\/p>\n

The head of Iran\u2019s Medical Council, Mohammad Raiszadeh, said 33 medical workers had been detained during the protests and that 11 had been released so far, according to Iran International.<\/p>\n

He described detention of medical staff for performing professional duties as a \u201cred line,\u201d amid separate allegations of security pressure on health workers and violence against protesters in hospitals.<\/p>\n

Iran International also quoted President Masoud Pezeshkian<\/a> as describing the ongoing protests as \u201cunimaginable,\u201d urging authorities to \u201ctreat this disease\u201d rather than \u201cerase the issue.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

He added that officials had come \u201cto solve people\u2019s problems, not to add to their burden,\u201d and said \u201cthe mentality in our society is wounded,\u201d according to the outlet.<\/p>\n

Separately, Iranian lawmaker Hamid Rasaei, a Tehran representative in parliament, called for an investigation into why the internet was not disconnected before the unrest of January 8 and 9, Iran International reported.<\/p>\n

A report by the rights organization Article 19 said Iran\u2019s digital repression reflects more than a decade of technology transfer and adoption of China\u2019s<\/a> cyber governance model, according to Iran International.\u00a0<\/p>\n
