The Assassin, the popular thriller<\/a> starring Keeley Hawes and Freddie Highmore, has received an exciting update, with Prime Video<\/a> confirming that the critically acclaimed series<\/a> will return for a second season. <\/p>\n

Created by Harry and Jack Williams, the streamer confirmed that production on the follow-up will begin later this year, with both Hawes and Highmore set to reprise their roles alongside Shalom Brune-Franklin and Devon Terrell. <\/p>\n

The series<\/a> sees Hawes portray Julie Green, a former assassin whose quiet life is disrupted by the arrival of her son, Edward (Highmore). In the first season, he came in search of answers about his paternity, but it wasn’t the only thing from Julie’s past that resurfaced.<\/p>\n

Per the official press release, the second season “picks up after Edward and Julie have returned from a disastrous trip to Northern Europe, where they find themselves estranged once again following a mysterious fall-out [that] no one is willing to discuss”. <\/p>\n

“Julie\u2019s days as an assassin are far from behind her as she has slipped back to her old ways, whilst navigating something just as perilous\u2026 the dating scene,” it continues.<\/p>\n

Hawes, who also serves as an executive producer, said in a statement: “I can\u2019t wait to step back into Julie\u2019s world. To reunite with Freddie and our extraordinary cast, and to dive deeper into Julie\u2019s life and her complicated relationship with Edward, is a privilege. There is so much more to uncover, and audiences are in for a treat!”<\/p>\n

“What fun it\u2019ll be to get the gang back together,” added Highmore. “I can\u2019t wait to be reunited with so many of the cast and crew! Harry and Jack have cooked up another spectacular adventure, and I feel so lucky to have the brilliant Keeley as a sparring partner once again.”<\/p>\n
