Last week, it was reported that Sony Pictures was developing<\/a> a new Charlie\u2019s Angels movie. At the time, it wasn\u2019t clear if this would be a full-on reboot or retain a connection to the previous movies. According to Jeff Sneider<\/a>, it will be the latter. He\u2019s heard that Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz, and Lucy Liu will return for the new Charlie\u2019s Angels movie.<\/p>\n

Charlie\u2019s Angels Back in Action?<\/p>\n

Although Sneider has heard that Barrymore, Diaz, and Liu will be back, he\u2019s not certain whether they\u2019ll return as leads or pass the torch to a new generation. My guess would be the second option. Get a gorgeous new trio ready to lead the franchise into more installments\u2014assuming it\u2019s actually a success\u2014and keep the OG cast as mentors.<\/p>\n

Pete Chiarelli (The Proposal) is writing the script, and Sneider has also heard that he\u2019s trying to figure out a way to bring Demi Moore back. She played an ex-Angel in Charlie\u2019s Angels: Full Throttle<\/a>, where her character was killed off. But when has death ever stood in the way of bringing someone back for a sequel?<\/p>\n

The Charlie\u2019s Angels Legacy<\/p>\n

The original Charlie\u2019s Angels series<\/a> aired on ABC from 1976 to 1981, starring Farrah Fawcett, Kate Jackson, and Jaclyn Smith as private investigators working for the Townsend Agency. Their unseen boss, Charlie Townsend, famously delivered assignments via speakerphone. Over the show\u2019s five-season run, several other Angels joined the team, including Cheryl Ladd, Shelley Hack, and Tanya Roberts.<\/p>\n

Sony first brought the Angels to the big screen in 2000<\/a> with a glossy, big-budget adaptation starring Barrymore, Diaz, and Liu. The film was a major hit and led to the 2003 sequel.<\/p>\n

There was also a 2011 TV series that was cancelled after just seven episodes. Sony tried again in 2019<\/a> with another theatrical reboot starring Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska, but this time audiences didn\u2019t show up, and the film fizzled at the box office.<\/p>\n
