However, for now, it&#8217;s only day two of the lunar cycle, so it&#8217;s still a little small. <\/p>\n<p>What is today\u2019s Moon phase?<\/p>\n<p>As of Thursday, Feb. 19, the <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/ispace-moon-lander-south-pole-image\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Moon<\/a> phase is Waxing Crescent. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/moon.nasa.gov\/moon-observation\/daily-moon-guide\/?intent=011#1767622046258::0::\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NASA&#8217;s Daily Moon Guide<\/a>, 4% of the Moon will be lit up tonight.<\/p>\n<p>When is the next Full Moon?<\/p>\n<p>The next Full Moon will be on March 3. The <a href=\"https:\/\/mashable.com\/article\/moon-phase-today-feb-1\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">last Full Moon was on Feb. 1<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What are Moon phases?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/science.nasa.gov\/moon\/moon-phases\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-ga-click=\"1\" data-ga-label=\"$text\" data-ga-item=\"text-link\" data-ga-module=\"content_body\" title=\"(opens in a new window)\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NASA<\/a> tells us that the Moon completes a full orbit around Earth in roughly 29.5 days. During this cycle, it passes through eight distinct phases. Although we consistently see the same side of the Moon, the portion illuminated by the Sun shifts as it travels along its orbit. The changing angle of sunlight reflecting off the Moon\u2019s surface is what makes it appear full, partially lit, or nearly dark at different times. The eight phases include:<\/p>\n<p>New Moon &#8211; The Moon is between Earth and the sun, so the side we see is dark (in other words, it&#8217;s invisible to the eye).<\/p>\n<p>\n            Mashable Light Speed\n        <\/p>\n<p>Waxing Crescent &#8211; A small sliver of light appears on the right side (Northern Hemisphere).<\/p>\n<p>First Quarter &#8211; Half of the Moon is lit on the right side. It looks like a half-Moon.<\/p>\n<p>Waxing Gibbous &#8211; More than half is lit up, but it\u2019s not quite full yet.<\/p>\n<p>Full Moon &#8211; The whole face of the Moon is illuminated and fully visible.<\/p>\n<p>Waning Gibbous &#8211; The Moon starts losing light on the right side.
