A new Hilary Duff album? Well, that\u2019s absolutely what dreams are made of. The former teen star released Luck\u2026 or Something, her first album in over a decade, at midnight on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis album feels like a great representation of the past 10, almost 20 years. It\u2019s a journey in being okay with yourself, your story, and the winding road that got you there,\u201d Duff wrote on Instagram<\/a>. \u201cThere are songs about love, heartbreak, life life-ing, insecurities, and growing up \u2026 I hope you find pieces of yourself in this record. I\u2019ll see you out there! \u2728\ud83e\udea9\ud83c\udf52\u201d<\/p>\n Duff\u2019s new LP comes three months after she announced the album<\/a>. The Lizzie McGuire Movie star kicked off her Luck\u2026 or Something era and musical renaissance in November, when she unveiled the record\u2019s lead single, \u201cMature<\/a>.\u201d She followed up the pop-rock track with a synth-pop offering, \u201cRoommates<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n If these first two singles are any indication, Luck\u2026 or Something shows Duff at her most willing to dredge up the messiness of finding and falling in love as an adult. Where \u201cMature\u201d serves as a scathing critique of an ex-lover with a \u201cScorpio touch,\u201d \u201cRoommates\u201d is an anthem for the yearners, as Duff reminisces about the beginning of a relationship, when butterflies and late-night rendezvous were plentiful.<\/p>\n With Luck\u2026 or Something, Duff is older, wiser and, well, more mature. On \u201cHoliday Party,\u201d she concocts a cheating nightmare, imagining her husband \u201cgetting way too cozy\u201d with another woman. Duff also details the rift with her older sister, Haylie, on \u201cWe Don\u2019t Talk,\u201d before delving into her fraught relationship with her father on the country-tinged cut \u201cThe Optimist.\u201d \u201cI wish I could sleep on planes\/And that my father would really love me,\u201d Duff admits on her most vulnerable track yet. On \u201cGrowing Up,\u201d she interpolates Blink-182\u2019s \u201cDammit\u201d and celebrates female friendship.<\/p>\n The essence of Duff\u2019s new era, however, is cemented in her pulsating closing track, \u201cAdult Size Medium,\u201d in which she reflects on the \u201cheartbreaking and reassuring\u201d realities of growing up once you\u2019re on \u201cthe other side of cherry-flavored chapstick.\u201d<\/p>\n This candor isn\u2019t new for Duff, who, as a teen star, sang about embracing change (\u201cSo Yesterday\u201d) and the giddiness of growing up (\u201cSweet Sixteen\u201d). Luck\u2026 or Something feels like a catch-up sesh with a girlfriend you haven\u2019t seen in a while. The two of you have settled into your couch, uncorked a bottle of orange wine and are finally ready to dive in.<\/p>\n \u201cI just felt really ready to share,\u201d Duff told Glamour<\/a> for its February cover story. \u201cOne, I wanted to stretch creatively, and two, I wanted to make something that I could connect with people again on the level of who I am now. I felt like people have definitely gone through some of the similar large strokes that I have in the past 10 to 15 years.\u201d<\/p>\n Fans can soon hear Duff perform tracks from Luck\u2026 Or Something live when she embarks on her upcoming \u201cLucky Me\u201d world tour. She\u2019ll kick things off in West Palm Beach, Fla., in June before taking the tour abroad through the winter.
