Last night, Katseye<\/a> made the announcement that Manon Bannerman<\/a> would be taking a break from the group to focus on her wellbeing.<\/p>\n

\u201cAfter open and thoughtful conversations together, we are sharing that Manon will be taking a temporary hiatus from group activities to focus on her health and wellbeing,\u201d the official statement<\/a>, shared by the HYBE-Geffen label, read. \u201cWe fully support this decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old star rose to fame alongside Daniela Avanzini<\/a>, Lara Raj<\/a>, Megan Skiendiel<\/a>, Sophia Laforteza<\/a>, and Yoonchae<\/a> with the release of Netflix\u2019s Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE. The reality competition series, which resulted in the debut of Katseye in 2024, was the first joint venture between K-pop entertainment company HYBE and Universal Music Group\u2019s Geffen Records. Since then, the group has gone on to win an MTV Video Music Award and earn two Grammy nominations.<\/p>\n

During the show, Bannerman garnered a reputation for missing rehearsals, and has since spoken out about how her need for rest became misconstrued for \u201claziness.\u201d She has opened up about the differences between the work culture in the United States and her home country of Switzerland, where taking breaks is accepted as a necessity. \u201cAmerica has a very different culture when it comes to work-life balance,\u201d she told The Cut<\/a>. \u201cYou guys are all about grind and hustle. In Switzerland, if you\u2019re sick, you take a day off. No one\u2019s going to expect you to work.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cBeing called lazy, especially as a Black girl, is not fair,\u201d she continued. \u201cNow I feel like I always need to put in extra work to prove something, even though I really don\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

Following yesterday\u2019s news, Bannerman took to Weverse direct messages to address her fans directly. \u201cSometimes things unfold in ways we don\u2019t fully control, but I\u2019m trusting the bigger picture,\u201d she wrote<\/a>. \u201cThank you for standing by me. I love you endlessly and can\u2019t wait to see you again.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cKATSEYE remains committed to showing up for one another and for the fans who mean everything to us,\u201d HYBE-Geffen continued in their statement. \u201cThe group will continue scheduled activities during this time, and we look forward to being together again when the time is right.\u201d The artists are set to perform at several upcoming music festivals, including Coachella in April and New York City\u2019s Governors Ball in June.<\/p>\n
