A day after some 15 pro-government agitators showed up<\/a> at her doorstep, Arab Israeli news anchor Lucy Aharish said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was to blame and that his \u201cgoons\u201d would one day turn on him.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe if he\u2019s pressed he\u2019ll agree to say this isn\u2019t his way. But it\u2019s precisely his way,\u201d Aharish said Sunday in a monologue on her Channel 13 show.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe balcony at Zion Square is here and now,\u201d she added, referring to the speech by then-opposition chief Netanyahu at a right-wing rally in Jerusalem in 1995, a month before a Jewish extremist assassinated Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin for seeking peace with the Palestinians. Netanyahu\u2019s critics frequently accuse him of condoning calls for Rabin\u2019s murder at that rally.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s you again,\u201d Aharish said. \u201cPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who doesn\u2019t see, doesn\u2019t hear, doesn\u2019t know what\u2019s going on under his nose \u2014 doesn\u2019t know what he himself wrought by his own hands, words and silence.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou, sir, are guilty. And until you call off your goons \u2014 and there are many of them \u2014 you are the leader of this mob,\u201d said Aharish. \u201cOne day these goons will come to your doorstep. Who knows when they\u2019ll turn on you?\u201d<\/p>\n

Aharish said the right-wing ideology espoused by the mob was a disgrace to that of Netanyahu\u2019s predecessors at the head of the Likud party, and to that of Ze\u2019ev Jabotinsky, the party\u2019s pre-state forerunner.<\/p>\n

She noted that, where former Likud prime minister Yitzhak Shamir used to boycott Knesset speeches by Meir Kahane, Netanyahu\u2019s government includes devotees of the racist rabbi.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is your right wing, Netanyahu: Violent, censorious, bullying and inciting. The right wing that has embraced Kahane\u2019s legacy and given it the government,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

On Saturday night, a group of men led by right-wing activist Mordechai David \u2014 who has repeatedly harassed government critics and has received overt support<\/a> from ministers \u2014 entered Aharish\u2019s Tel Aviv apartment complex with a megaphone and harangued her from outside her door.<\/p>\n

David and another member of the group, identified in Hebrew media as Likud activist Rami Ben-Yehuda, were detained for trespassing and disturbing, and\u00a0later released from custody and barred from approaching Aharish\u2019s home, or contacting her, for a period of 14 days.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Channel 13 News on Sunday, Aharish said the mob came to her home as her husband, \u201cFauda\u201d star Tsahi Halevi, was putting their 5-year-old son Adam to bed. Among the slogans yelled by the mob, said Aharish, was \u201cBibi is king.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTsahi and I jumped when Adam said, \u2018Why are people yelling outside the door?\u2019,\u201d said Aharish. \u201cWe said someone was injured downstairs and mommy and daddy are trying to help him.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen he saw me falling apart in the house, and he said to me, \u2018Don\u2019t cry, mommy. It\u2019s okay, I\u2019m here\u2019,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cDoes my 5-year-old kid need to calm down his mom?\u201d said Aharish. \u201cThere is no forgiveness for what my child went through yesterday.\u201d<\/p>\n

She vowed to sue \u201ceach and every one\u201d of the people who came to her doorstep.<\/p>\n

Nor was that the first time her family had been harassed in their own neighborhood, according to Aharish. Just last week, she said, Halevi was at the supermarket with their son when two people came up to him, asked Halevi if he \u201cdoesn\u2019t get that the right wing is the only solution,\u201d and added: \u201cWe don\u2019t get how you\u2019re allowed to live in this neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

Halevi, said Aharish, was a \u201chero of Israel\u201d who had never missed a day of reserve duty as long as she\u2019s known him, and who rushed to the Gaza border region to fight Hamas-led terrorists minutes into the onslaught of October 7, 2023.<\/p>\n

Halevi fought in border communities amid the Hamas-led onslaught and is widely credited with saving dozens of lives. Aharish, who due to her high-profile position received multiple pleas for help from those trapped during the attack, is said to have helped direct forces to reach and rescue them.<\/p>\n

Aharish said nobody from Netanyahu\u2019s coalition has called her since the incident on Saturday.<\/p>\n

If anything happens to her, her family or other journalists, she added, \u201cthe blood is on the hands of whoever was silent \u2014 it\u2019s on the hands of whoever is on that balcony again.\u201d<\/p>\n
