Today, 400 years in the future, and 45,000 years in the past. Those are the three settings of In the Blink of an Eye, the new live-action film<\/a> from animation legend Andrew Stanton. With this film, the Oscar-winning director of <\/a>Wall-E, Finding Nemo, John Carter, and this year\u2019s Toy Story 5<\/a> tackles a sprawling sci-fi drama that shows the beauty and frailty of life across generations. And, in this new video, you can get a really good clue of how it all comes together.<\/p>\n

io9 is excited to exclusively debut this brand-new featurette from the film, which gives an idea of the huge scope of the movie and how its deeper meanings impacted its actors, such as Rashida Jones, Kate McKinnon, and Daveed Diggs. Check it out.<\/p>\n

That video does an excellent job of hinting at how these three stories tie together. There\u2019s the Neanderthal story set over 45,000 years ago. There\u2019s a story in modern times about an anthropologist (Jones) who is studying the remains of someone from that era. And then there\u2019s the future story about a woman (McKinnon) on a deep space voyage to populate a new planet. Throughout the film, each time you think you know specifically how it\u2019s going to link together, everything changes, and by the end, everything comes together in an unexpected way that\u2019s even better and more hopeful.<\/p>\n

Stanton hasn\u2019t made a live-action movie since 2012\u2019s John Carter, which is a mess, but a beautiful mess<\/a>. In the Blink of an Eye is more focused than that movie, but also not quite the slam dunk you want it to be. However, in terms of a super solid, original movie to watch on streaming? Few are better than this one.<\/p>\n
