During his appearance on Monday\u2019s episode of the \u201cBest People\u201d podcast<\/a>, Oscar winner Robert De Niro<\/a> admitted to MS NOW anchor Nicolle Wallace that he is \u201cconcerned\u201d about the billionaires and tech CEOs that have capitulated to President Trump<\/a> over the past year.<\/p>\n

While De Niro was talking about the importance of speaking out publicly against Trump, Wallace asked the actor if he thinks there are some people in Hollywood who are experiencing a \u201cBlacklist kind of fear\u201d of retribution right now. <\/p>\n

\u201cThat might be some of it,\u201d De Niro acknowledged, before calling out billionaires like Jeff Bezos. \u201cWhat I am more concerned about [are] the people who control those companies, the big tech bros who ought to know better.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJeff Bezos just cut a third of the Washington Post,\u201d De Niro noted, referencing the publication\u2019s recent wave of sweeping layoffs<\/a>. De Niro told Wallace he believes Bezos has become more controlling of the Post because he is \u201cafraid\u201d of Trump but asked, \u201cWhat more does he need? The only thing he needs is integrity, and he lost his integrity by doing that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019ve got to stand up. You have the money to fight the government for decades. You have the money to drag it all out, do everything. But what did you do? What did you do? For what? What even came from it?\u201d De Niro continued. \u201cI don\u2019t know. I don\u2019t understand it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wallace noted that Trump can be extremely \u201cspiteful\u201d and asked De Niro if he is afraid at all of some of that spite coming his way. \u201cI can\u2019t afford to be afraid. Of course you have anxiety. You\u2019re afraid. But you\u2019ve got to get out. You\u2019ve got to defy this. You cannot allow them to intimidate you,\u201d De Niro responded. \u201cThey take your lunch money on a Monday. Don\u2019t think they\u2019re not going to take it on a Tuesday or Wednesday or Thursday and more. The bully in the schoolyard.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI want my country back,\u201d the actor said. \u201cIt\u2019s time for us who\u2019ve taken this country for granted to stand up and get rid of this guy. When you talk about the stakes of the election, it\u2019s clear, it\u2019s plain, the evidence is before our eyes.\u201d When he was asked if there are any Democrats he believes are good at pushing back publicly against Trump, he specifically praised both California Governor Gavin Newsom and Wisconsin Congressman Jason Crow.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The actor, who won Oscars for his performances in \u201cRaging Bull\u201d and \u201cThe Godfather Part II,\u201d also pushed back on his image as a Hollywood tough guy. \u201cListen, I\u2019m not a tough guy,\u201d De Niro said. \u201cI\u2019ve played them, but somebody asked me once, I don\u2019t know, Stephen Colbert years ago, he [called me] a \u2018tough guy.\u2019 I said, \u2018No, I\u2019m not a tough guy. I\u2019m a concerned citizen. Period.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI do see what we\u2019re up against, and it makes me so angry. I don\u2019t see how we can ignore it,\u201d the actor concluded. \u201cThere\u2019s no easy way around this. It takes a determination and knowing that you have no choice but to go forward. If you don\u2019t go forward, it\u2019s over.\u201d<\/p>\n
