Former US vice president Kamala Harris and the Democratic Party lost a significant amount of votes in the 2024 US presidential election due to the party\u2019s policy on Israel’s war in Gaza<\/a>, Axios reported on Sunday, citing internal research carried out by top Democratic officials.<\/p>\n

In December, Democratic National Convention<\/a> (DNC) chairman Ken Martin said he would not publish the report he had ordered months before into the election defeat. In a statement at the time, Martin said the DNC had \u201ccompleted a comprehensive review of what happened in 2024\u201d and was \u201cputting its learnings into motion.<\/p>\n

\u201cHere\u2019s our North Star: Does this help us win? If the answer is no, it\u2019s a distraction from the core mission,\u201d Martin argued at the time.<\/p>\n

According to US media, Democratic party officials conducted over 300 interviews with Democrats across all 50 states as part of the party\u2019s effort to uncover what led to US President Donald Trump\u2019s 2024 victory<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Axios reported that DNC officials also met with activists from the Institute for Middle East Understanding Policy Project (IMEU), which influences US foreign policies in favor of Palestinian rights and supports the narrative of Israeli apartheid and occupation.<\/p>\n

They told the Democrats that former US president Joe Biden\u2019s administration\u2019s support for Israel had \u201cdrained support from some young people and progressives.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe DNC shared with us that their own data also found that [Biden\u2019s] policy was, in their words, a \u2018net-negative\u2019 in the 2024 election,\u201d Axios cited spokesperson Hamid Bendaas as saying.<\/p>\n

Furthermore, IMEU reportedly accused the DNC of withholding its report due to its findings on Israel, a claim denied by DNC spokesperson Kendall Witmer.<\/p>\n

Despite the internal investigation\u2019s finding, Harris drew a harder line on Gaza than Biden in the months leading up to the 2024 election.
