Lebanese soldiers conducting an operation in southern Lebanon came under fire from the IDF<\/a> near Marjeyoun, the Lebanese Armed Forces claimed on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

During the alleged incident, the LAF soldiers came under fire from the Israeli side of the border, with an IDF drone flying at low altitude, issuing threats aiming to “force” LAF soldiers to leave the area, the LAF’s statement on X\/Twitter added.<\/p>\n

LAF Army Command issued orders to reinforce the post and respond to sources of fire, with the LAF’s statement noting that the incident has been escalated for review with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).<\/p>\n

The IDF has not issued a public statement on the incident at this time.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Israel has sent an indirect message to Lebanon that it would strike Lebanon<\/a> hard, targeting civilian infrastructure, including the airport, in the event that Hezbollah gets involved in any US-Iran war, two senior Lebanese officials said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Iran and the US will hold a third round of nuclear talks on Thursday in Geneva<\/a>, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi said on Sunday, amid growing concerns about the risk of military conflict between the adversaries.<\/p>\n

Israel dealt heavy blows to the Iran-backed terror group Hezbollah during a war in 2024, killing its leader Hassan Nasrallah along with thousands of its fighters and destroying much of its arsenal.<\/p>\n

Hezbollah, a Shi’ite movement, was established by Iran<\/a>‘s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps in 1982.<\/p>\n

Hezbollah’s new leader, Naim Qassem, said in a televised address last month that the group was “not neutral” in the standoff between Washington and Tehran, and that it was “targeted by the potential aggression.”<\/p>\n

“We are determined to defend ourselves. We will choose in due course how to act, whether to intervene or not,” Qassem said.<\/p>\n

The US Embassy in Beirut<\/a> evacuated dozens of non-essential personnel via Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport, the US State Department confirmed on Monday.<\/p>\n
