{"id":309219,"date":"2026-02-25T09:24:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T09:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/309219\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T09:24:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T09:24:09","slug":"food-waste-is-a-heinous-crime-says-chef-intercepting-tonnes-destined-for-landfill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/309219\/","title":{"rendered":"Food waste is a heinous crime, says chef intercepting tonnes destined for landfill"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&#8216;We try not to waste food&#8217;published at 07:47 GMT<\/p>\n<p>07:47 GMT<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A mum to four young daughters, Patricia finds leftover food a big headache. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Even after careful meal-planning and composting raw vegetables, food such as meat, bread and uneaten meals still end up in the family\u2019s black bin. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I mean, we try not to waste food,&#8221; says Patricia. &#8220;But you know, even if just we&#8217;re chopping up vegetables or we have little bits of leftover chicken which we can&#8217;t actually eat because it&#8217;s like gristly\u2026 that all goes in the bin. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;So it ends up being quite lot because we&#8217;re a family of six.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Their local authority, Worcester City Council, expects to bring in weekly food waste collections in spring 2027. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Local politicians have blamed a lack of clarity over government funding for the delay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It&#8217;s frustrating news for Patricia, who is concerned about the environmental impact. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;When areas with fewer resources managed to do it years ago, it\u2019s hard to understand why we\u2019re waiting until 2027,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Patricia with her four daughters in the kitchen at home.
