Wu-Tang Clan<\/a> co-founder Oliver \u2018Power\u2019 Grant has died, aged 52.<\/p>\n

The producer, actor and fashion mogul\u2019s death was confirmed on Wu-Tang Clan\u2019s official social media channels last night (Wednesday February 25).<\/p>\n

\u201cRest in Power, Power \ud83d\udd4a\ufe0f,\u201d the caption read, alongside a photograph of Grant. A cause of death has not yet been disclosed.<\/p>\n

Wu-Tang Clan member Method Man<\/a> posted his own tribute to his long-time collaborator.\u00a0 \u201cParadise my brother safe travels!\u201d he shared on Instagram. \u201cI am not OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

GZA<\/a> wrote: \u201cWe couldn\u2019t have done it without him. Wu wouldn\u2019t have come to fruition without Power. His passing is a profound loss to us all. My deepest condolences to the fam.\u201d<\/p>\n

Raekwon<\/a> said: \u201cPOWER we been everywhere \u2026. now you everywhere !\ud83d\ude22\ud83d\ude4f\ud83c\udffe The most high is merciful love you.\u201d Ghostface Killah<\/a> shared a series of broken-heart emojis with a \u201cPower\u201d logo depicting an angel. Grant was born in 1973 in Jamaica and raised in New York\u2019s Staten Island. He grew up in the Park Hill projects, where he met the members of Wu-Tang Clan. They gave him the nickname \u201cPower\u201d over a game of chess.<\/p>\n

The news of Grant\u2019s passing follows the announcement that Wu-Tang Clan have been nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame 2026<\/a>. However, Grant \u2013 who was not a performing member of the collective \u2013 was not listed on the Hall\u2019s nominee roster.<\/p>\n

Grant executive produced the group\u2019s early recordings and oversaw their successful fashion line, Wu Wear, which launched in 1995.<\/p>\n

He reportedly made an early financial investment in Wu-Tang Clan in the early \u201990s, and raised funds for them to produce their debut single \u2018Protect Ya Neck\u2019. He later executive-produced their first album, 1993\u2019s \u2018Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)\u2019.<\/p>\n

In a 2011 interview with Passion Of The Weiss<\/a>, Grant described his business ventures as a \u201chard-knock life\u201d, and said that \u201cyou figure it out as you go along, and take cues from those that are actively doing things\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of it was trial and error. There were no models,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cWu Wear was pretty much like our entry in the fashion biz. But before I was in Wu Wear, I was making and marketing the first Wu records with RZA. Everything that we learned was hard-knock life.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2008, Grant renamed Wu Wear as Wu-Tang Brand and discontinued the original brand, which was being widely counterfeited. In 2017, however, Grant and RZA relaunched Wu Wear with Live Nation Merchandise.<\/p>\n

Grant is also known for his occasional acting roles. He made his big-screen debut in the 1998 US crime drama Belly, before acting alongside Ben Stiller and Robert Downey Jr in 1999\u2019s Black And White.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Wu-Tang Clan co-founder Oliver \u2018Power\u2019 Grant has died, aged 52.
