Early in his career, he faced ridicule, but today he is celebrated as one of the finest actors in South Indian cinema. What many don\u2019t know is that acting was never his dream\u2014cooking was. Coming from a film family, one would expect him to naturally lean toward films, but as a child, he had little interest in the industry. Instead, his heart was set on becoming a chef. Fate, however, had different plans, pushing him into the world of acting, where he eventually flourished.<\/p>\n
Dhanush desire’s to be a chef<\/p>\n
The actor in question is none other than Dhanush. At a recent trailer launch of ‘Idli Kadai’ event in Coimbatore, Dhanush himself revealed this lesser-known side of his journey. He said, \u201cI don\u2019t know why I keep getting chef roles. I wanted to cook. I wanted to be a chef. Maybe that\u2019s why I have this desire, and that\u2019s why I\u2019m getting these films and these roles.\u201d<\/p>\n

Reflecting further, he pointed out how food and chef characters often follow him on screen: \u201cIn Jagame Thandhiram, I made parathas. In Thiruchitrambalam, I was a delivery boy. In Raayan, I owned a fast food shop. And now in this film, I make idlis. Even in scripts I write myself, chef roles come in. When directors approach me, they, too offer similar roles. Perhaps it\u2019s my passion for cooking manifesting through my characters.\u201dDhanush also shared an inspiring message for the youth: \u201cYou become what you think. The power of expression stays with you. Believe in your dreams, work hard, and stay focused\u2014anything is possible. I never dreamt of acting, but life turned me this way. Still, my love for cooking continues to find its place in my films.\u201d<\/p>\n
The superstar inside a chef<\/p>\n
Though his dream was to be a chef, Dhanush carved an extraordinary path in cinema. He made his Bollywood debut in 2013 with Raanjhanaa alongside Sonam Kapoor, later starring in films like ‘Shamitabh’ with Amitabh Bachchan<\/a> and ‘Atrangi Re’ with Sara Ali Khan<\/a> and Akshay Kumar<\/a>. In the South, he has delivered acclaimed hits like ‘Maari’, ‘Kodi’, ‘Vada Chennai’, ‘Velaiilla Pattadhari’, ‘Asuran’, and ‘Karnan’.<\/p>\n ‘Idli Kadai,’ releasing on October 1, 2025<\/p>\n Now, Dhanush returns with ‘Idli Kadai,’ releasing on October 1, 2025. Not only does he star in the film opposite Nithya Menen, but he has also directed and produced it. Adding a personal touch, his grandmother makes her acting debut in the movie.
