Premiering in 2022, \u201cSmiling Friends\u201d follows Pim (Cusack), Charlie (Hadel) and their colleagues at a small company as they work to bring happiness and joy to their clients and the world. Season 3 launched in October. <\/p>\n
Hadel explained that from the \u201cvery, very beginning,\u201d he and Cusack had discussed putting their \u201c110%\u201d in the show \u201cto make [it] as good as it could be\u201d and then \u201cgo out, what feels like, on top.\u201d They thought it would be better to leave fans \u201cwanting more\u201d than have the audience think \u201cThat show is still on the air? Oh God.\u201d <\/p>\n
After working on the show \u201c24\/7\u201d for years, the creators \u2014 who also voice multiple characters on the show \u2014 said that they reached a point where it felt like \u201cthat\u2019s a good spot to end it\u201d because they did not want to give fans \u201chalf-hearted … slop.\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s very weird to do this, but this was our decision,\u201d said Cusack, adding that Adult Swim was very supportive and left the door open for them to return. \u201cWe could come back in the future and make more episodes if we want, if we feel like it. … But maybe not. Who knows. We\u2019ll have to determine that in the future.\u201d <\/p>\n

The pair was clear that there are currently no plans for them to return to the world of \u201cSmiling Friends,\u201d but they also added that this wasn\u2019t the end of their creative collaborations. Cusack and Hadel also shared a bit of \u201cgood news\u201d \u2014 two additional episodes of \u201cSmiling Friends\u201d will air on April 12. <\/p>\n
While these will be the final \u201cSmiling Friends\u201d episodes, Hadel explained they are not \u201cfinales.\u201d He instead described them as \u201clittle stragglers\u201d of Season 3 that are not \u201cthematically related,\u201d but he hopes fans will enjoy them. <\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone at Adult Swim<\/a> is incredibly proud of what Michael and Zach built and grateful for the bold, boundary\u2011pushing vision behind \u2018Smiling Friends,\u2019\u201d a statement shared by a representative of the network said. \u201cAdult Swim<\/a> has always been a creator\u2011driven network and \u2018Smiling Friends\u2019 simply wouldn\u2019t exist without the singular vision and ambitious creativity of its co-creators. Like fans, we are sad to see this series come to an end.
