Ghosts fans can rejoice, as the popular BBC sitcom is making a comeback<\/a> – albeit with a twist! Just over two years on from a Christmas special, the story will be continued on the big screen<\/a> with a feature film.<\/p>\n

The beloved sitcom<\/a> followed Mike (Kiell Smith-Bynoe) and Alison Cooper (Charlotte Ritchie) as they move into the haunted Button House, with the latter being able to interact with ghosts following a near-death experience.<\/p>\n

After premiering in 2019, the series<\/a> ran for five seasons before seemingly concluding with a festive special in 2023, but there’s still life in this old dog as feature film Ghosts: The Possession of Button House has been greenlit.<\/p>\n

It has been confirmed that Smith-Bynoe, Ritchie and Lolly Adefope will reprise their respective roles alongside Mathew Baynton, Simon Farnaby, Martha Howe-Douglas, Jim Howick, Laurence Rickard and Ben Willbond, all of whom are co-writers.<\/p>\n

Simon Hynd, who directed the fourth and fifth seasons as well as two Christmas specials, will return to helm the big-screen outing, while Alison Owen and Debra Hayward serve as producers.<\/p>\n

“We thought we had said goodbye to Button House at the end of the final season,” said the various co-creators and co-writers of the series<\/a> in a statement. “We never planned to come back. <\/p>\n

“But when we had the idea for this story, we all got so excited that we couldn\u2019t resist returning to our haunted home for one more adventure. We can\u2019t wait to be together and to welcome some brilliant new faces, to tell this soul-stirring tale of life and death.” <\/p>\n

“We are thrilled to be bringing this hit comedy to the big screen for an even bigger audience to enjoy,” added Owen and Hayward, while fellow producer Alison Carpenter said that “diehard fans and newcomers are in for a treat”.<\/p>\n

Filming for Ghosts: The Possession of Button House will begin on location at West Horsley Place and the surrounding Surrey area next month, though we’ll have to wait a little while longer for a release date.<\/p>\n
