Apple Pay is on track to become the second-largest payment processing service in the world.<\/p>\n

Although Apple is best known for its tech products, like the iPhone and iPad, it turns out its mobile payment service is just as popular.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The tech<\/a> giant launched Apple Pay in 2014, allowing people to make purchases online and in real life using their iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch or Mac.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The service uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to replace a physical card, and uses FaceID to keep things secure \u2013 and a lot of people are using it each year.<\/p>\n

Millions of people use Apple Pay to make purchases<\/p>\n

Apple Pay<\/a> was introduced in the US, and has steadily been rolling out to the rest of the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It comes pre-installed on all new iPhones<\/a>, and around 80 percent of people have chosen to activate it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In the US Apple Pay dominates the digital wallet market, with a 92 percent market share in 2020.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to Business of Apps<\/a>, in 2017 Apple Pay had around 337 million active users, but this ballooned to more than 800 million in 2025.<\/p>\n

Last year, those 800 million users reportedly made more than $9.4 trillion worth of transactions, up from $8.5 trillion the year before.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This makes Apple Pay one of the largest payment processing service in the world behind Visa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Although the numbers from Apple are impressive, they\u2019ve still got a long way to go before they catch up with Visa.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In 2025, Visa\u2019s global network processed a mind-blowing 257.5 billion transactions worth a staggering $14.2 trillion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nonetheless, the future looks bright for Apple Pay.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If current trends continue, over 1.3 billion people will use the service by 2030.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Projections also show it could have more than 84 million users in the US alone by 2030 \u2013 but the tech giant isn\u2019t resting on its laurels.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Apple Pay is currently available in almost 100 countries, and is now eyeing plans for its largest expansion yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to Bloomberg<\/a>, the tech giant is looking to roll out Apple Pay in India later this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The report claims that Apple is currently in talks with ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and Axis Bank to bring the payment service to the most populous country in the world.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If Apple Pay is introduced in India, experts predict that it\u2019ll also lead to a boost in sales of the iPhone in the country, as residents will want to access to the smart payment system.<\/p>\n
