The S Pen has been around for over a decade at this point, and it\u2019s a key feature of Galaxy Ultra phones today. However, rumors have long swirled around whether or not it would stick around, but Samsung says that not only is it a \u201ccore\u201d part of Galaxy today, but that upgrades are in the works.<\/p>\n

In an interview following the launch of the Galaxy S26 series this week, Samsung COO Won-Joon Choi revealed a few tidbits around the future of Samsung\u2019s mobile business, including plans for the S Pen stylus. <\/p>\n

As reported by Bloomberg<\/a>, Choi revealed that Samsung is looking to upgrade the S Pen going forward.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re working on a more advanced technology within S-Pen to come up with a new structure of display, so the penalty of having S-Pen is diminished. S-Pen will continue to be one of the core technologies.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s not actually surprising, as prior rumors suggested <\/a>that Samsung would replace its existing S Pen tech to ditch the existing digitizer for something new. Exactly what would change remains unclear, but there are plenty of reasons to make a switch. Towards the top of that list is Qi2 compatibility, as Samsung says magnets can interfere with the existing S Pen. That pop-up shows quite often with the Galaxy S26 Ultra, too. But beyond that, Samsung said the reason that S Pen support was removed from Galaxy Z Fold 7 was over how thick the hardware was, so a new technology could theoretically bring support back to the foldable, while also paving the way for thinner future Ultra smartphones.<\/p>\n

The report also includes Choi\u2019s comments around some of Samsung\u2019s more experimental form factors. Apparently, Samsung has no timeline in mind just yet for sequels to the Galaxy Z TriFold or the Galaxy S25 Edge. While the TriFold has largely been an experiment on Samsung\u2019s part, the Galaxy S25 Edge debuted with real expectations, which it clearly didn\u2019t meet.<\/p>\n
