For some time now, \u201cConclave\u201d and \u201cAll Quiet on the Western Front\u201d director Edward Berger was attached to direct the next film in the Jason Bourne franchise.<\/p>\n

Last year the rights to the original Robert Ludlum \u201cThe Bourne Identity\u201d novel, which had been held at Universal Pictures and led to the creation of its famed franchise, went on the market before returning to Universal.<\/p>\n

The last update we got was in September when Berger told THR he\u2019s still attached and \u201cwill do it if Matt [Damon] wants to do it\u201d. It was also indicated that \u201cBlack Doves\u201d showrunner Joe Barton would be penning the script.<\/p>\n

Now, in the latest episode of Jeff Sneider\u2019s The Hot Mic<\/a>, it was revealed that a possible big announcement about the franchise could be on the way as talk about the next film is heating up with something major going on in relation to casting.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s seemingly suggested, but not outright stated, that there may be a possible recasting of the Bourne role itself. The franchise was last on the big screen back in 2016 with Paul Greengrass\u2019 \u201cJason Bourne,\u201d which wasn\u2019t as well-received as the Damon-led original trilogy.<\/p>\n

The franchise overall has pulled in $1.64 billion at the global box office and is generally considered the most successful spy film franchise after James Bond.<\/p>\n
