You have seen social media sites become bad, and alternatives crop up and become bad themselves. You have seen Chick Fil-A protested for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hrc.org\/press-releases\/hrc-protests-chick-fil-a-food-truck\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">too much homophobia<\/a>, and later for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lgbtqnation.com\/2025\/12\/conservative-christians-rage-at-chick-fil-a-for-celebrating-gay-couples-marriage\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">not enough homophobia<\/a>. You\u2019ve seen members of the Dixie Chicks <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2003\/SHOWBIZ\/Music\/03\/14\/dixie.chicks.apology\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">apologize to George W. Bush<\/a>, and then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;source=web&amp;rct=j&amp;opi=89978449&amp;url=https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/dixie-chick-retracts-bush-apology\/&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjN4e2ynv2SAxX0LUQIHdeFL0MQFnoECBoQAQ&amp;usg=AOvVaw0dFNyjKDckzqNtjoFOZYwd\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">un-apologize and rebrand<\/a>, and then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/06\/12\/arts\/music\/dixie-chicks-return-tour.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">rebrand again<\/a>. You\u2019ve seen George H.W. Bush say \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/1992\/05\/23\/us\/the-1992-campaign-political-memo-in-capital-and-on-coast-lines-drawn-on-quayle.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">we need more families like The Waltons than The Simpsons<\/a>\u201d in a campaign speech only to lose, and see The Simpsons become so successful it eventually became as anodyne as The Waltons.<\/p>\n<p>And now they\u2019re cancelling Claude. Is it going to make Claude more powerful? The earliest of early indicators suggest it may.<\/p>\n<p>You probably know by now the President has sought to use the tools available to him to annihilate the AI company Anthropic. And you may know that he has said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/27\/trump-anthropic-ai-pentagon.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Truth Social post<\/a>, \u201cThe Leftwing nut jobs at Anthropic have made a DISASTROUS MISTAKE trying to STRONG-ARM the Department of War, and force them to obey their Terms of Service instead of our Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Well, CNBC noticed Friday evening that the Claude app <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2026\/02\/28\/anthropics-claude-apple-apps.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has risen to number 2 on Apple\u2019s top U.S. free apps chart<\/a> \u2014almost immediately after the Trump administration gave the company a massive amount of free marketing by denouncing it, <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/sam-altman-is-marketing-openai-as-americas-wartime-ai-company-whether-he-intends-to-or-not-2000726912\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">helped broker a deal between Anthropic\u2019s main rival, OpenAI, and the Pentagon, and then started a major new war<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know if the upswing in Claude usage is meant to be a form of protest, but if you are trying out Claude as a little protest against the war, may I suggest asking Claude the following question: \u201cHey Claude, is changing which AI chatbot I use going to help end a war?\u201d I hope that helps.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"In your lifetime, you have no doubt witnessed backlashes, cancellations, and the Streisand Effect.
