Coronation Street’s Carla Connor reflects on a tragedy from her past tonight \u2013 as a surprise arrival threatens to turn her world upside down. Just when things were looking stable for the Connor-Swains again, chaos is about to follow.<\/p>\n

Monday’s episode kicks off Carla and Lisa Swain’s newest storyline, as they find themselves taking on the responsibility of Rob Donovan’s baby daughter for a while. But with Lisa very surprised by her fianc\u00e9e’s reaction, Carla decides to explain how she’s feeling.<\/p>\n

1. Meet baby Connie\"baby<\/p>\n

As Lisa celebrates the fact that she’s no longer demoted to desk duties at work<\/a>, it seems that everything is back to normal following Becky’s reign of terror. However, Carla gets a shock when she opens the door to No.6 and finds a baby in a car seat.<\/p>\n

Carla is so stunned that it’s down to Lisa to hurry after Elaine, the woman responsible for leaving the youngster there. It turns out that the baby is Connie \u2013 the child that Carla’s brother Rob Donovan fathered when he had a fling with prison guard Mandy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Mandy’s pregnancy was revealed<\/a> during Carla and Rob’s kidney donation storyline in February 2025. The plot twist hasn’t been mentioned much since then, but this is Soapland, so it only ever seemed like a matter of time before the baby made an appearance on our screens.<\/p>\n

2. Connie’s grandmother tells all\"carla<\/p>\n

It turns out that Connie’s grandmother Elaine was planning to explain herself, rather than abandoning the baby and running off \u2013 she just had to retrieve more belongings from the car first!<\/p>\n

As Mandy is still in prison and the doting grandma is heading into hospital for a while, there’s nobody to look after Connie unless Swarla step in. The alternative would be placing Connie into the care system.<\/p>\n

Lisa is quick to agree and Elaine heads off satisfied that she’ll be looked after well, but Carla is furious and doesn’t seem too pleased about the prospect of playing auntie\u2026<\/p>\n

3. Carla’s tragic history is revisited\"lisa<\/p>\n

After time to calm down, Carla confides in Lisa about the reason for her strong reaction. She reflects on the devastating time she faced when she suffered a miscarriage in 2014 \u2013 and how Connie’s arrival has brought back bad memories.<\/p>\n

At the time, Carla was dealing with stress on multiple fronts \u2013 from the revelation of her husband Peter’s affair, to the Tina McIntyre murder investigation.<\/p>\n

As she witnessed a fight between Peter and Rob on the cobbles, Carla collapsed and was rushed to hospital, where the medical staff confirmed she had lost her baby.<\/p>\n

“I was pregnant once,” Carla tells Lisa tonight. “A long time ago, when me and Peter first got married. For the first time in my life, I could actually imagine myself being a mum. I really wanted her.”<\/p>\n

She adds: “They never really tell you a reason, but I knew what it was. At the time, it was Rob and Tina and Peter. A lot of stress. I’m only telling you this because I want to explain why I was a hard-faced cow earlier.”<\/p>\n

In a recent chat with TV Times, Vicky Myers \u2013 who plays Lisa \u2013 explained: “Lisa is initially confused as to why Carla is refusing to engage. Carla talks about her past and the baby she lost, so that opens up avenues of discussion that I think a lot of viewers will relate to.<\/p>\n

“As a police officer, Lisa sees families being split up and she’d rather have Connie be with them than go into the care system.”<\/p>\n

4. A change of heart?\"carla<\/p>\n

Later this week, despite sleepless nights, Carla seems to be bonding with Connie as she bounces the little one on her knee. Lisa spots this and hopes it could be a breakthrough.<\/p>\n

“I think Carla’s more fun around the baby,” Alison King, who plays her, told TV Times recently. “She’s not sure what to do at first, but you’ll see her come into her own and she starts to think: ‘I’m fine. I’m doing well at this, actually’.<\/p>\n

“She is away from the factory a bit and you’ll see her juggling the baby and the job. There are some scenes where she has to take the baby into work, which were fun to film!”<\/p>\n
