{"id":318329,"date":"2026-03-02T19:34:20","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T19:34:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/318329\/"},"modified":"2026-03-02T19:34:20","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T19:34:20","slug":"chinas-minimax-reports-strong-revenue-growth-charts-broader-ai-ambitions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/318329\/","title":{"rendered":"China&#8217;s Minimax reports strong revenue growth, charts broader AI ambitions"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">BEIJING, March 2 (Reuters) &#8211; Chinese <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> startup MiniMax aims to become a global AI platform company, it said on Monday, \u200csetting out plans for faster expansion and a broader product \u200clineup after posting strong 2025 revenue growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The company reported a 159% year-on-year jump in revenue \u200bto $79 million, with more than 70% of sales outside China.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Revenue from products built directly around AI, primarily consumer subscriptions, surged 143.4%, while its open platform and enterprise services segment saw similar growth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The announcement was MiniMax&#8217;s first earnings \u200cupdate since raising HK$4.8 billion ($614 \u2060million) in its Hong Kong initial public offering in January.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The performance highlights rising demand for cheaper, open-source-based models from \u2060Chinese providers such as MiniMax and DeepSeek, which position themselves as lower-cost alternatives to proprietary U.S. systems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">DeepSeek focuses on text-based reasoning models and developer tools, \u200bwhile MiniMax \u200bemphasises multimodal capabilities spanning text, video \u200band audio.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">On a post-earnings call, \u200cCEO Yan Junjie said MiniMax aims to compete as both a model maker and product platform, while keeping its open-source approach to attract outside developers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">The company plans to release its latest M3 model in the first half of this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">However, MiniMax remains far smaller than U.S. competitors. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/organizations\/openai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:OpenAI;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">OpenAI<\/a> \u200csaid its annualized revenue topped $20 billion in \u200b2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">MiniMax is also still loss-making, posting a \u200bnet loss of $1.87 billion \u200bin 2025 compared with a $465.2 million loss a year earlier. \u200cMost of the 2025 loss \u200bcame from changes in \u200bthe value of financial instruments it holds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;We believe AI is not currently a zero-sum market, but rather one where annual incremental growth \u200bfar exceeds the \u200cexisting base,&#8221; Yan said, highlighting opportunities in coding, office productivity and \u200bvideo generation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">($1 = 7.8216 Hong Kong dollars)<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">(Reporting by Liam Mo and \u200bBrenda Goh.
