Actor Bruce Campbell<\/a> revealed that he has a “treatable” but not “curable” cancer.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The “Evil Dead” franchise star shared the news in an Instagram post<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it\u2019s referred to as an \u2018opportunity,\u2019 so let\u2019s go with that \u2013 I\u2019m having one of those. It\u2019s also called a type of cancer that\u2019s \u2018treatable\u2019 not \u2018curable.\u2019 I apologize if that\u2019s a shock \u2013 it was to me, too,” Campbell said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 67-year-old would not go into further detail about his diagnosis, but said he was posting the announcement because, “professionally, a few things will have to change.” He said appearances and work in general would need to take a back seat to treatment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie \u2018Ernie & Emma\u2019 this fall,” he continued.<\/p>\n

He added: “I\u2019m not trying to enlist sympathy \u2013 or advice \u2013 I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will).”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bruce Campbell\u2019s career <\/p>\n

In 1979, the Detroit-native and his friends raised $350,000 for a low-budget film, “The Evil Dead,” in which he starred.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Completed piecemeal over four years, the film first gained notoriety in England, where it became the best-selling video of 1983, beating out The Shining (1980), according to IMDB. After its appearance at Cannes, New Line Cinema stepped forward to release “Evil Dead” in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Campbell moved to Los Angeles and quickly gained a foothold producing or starring in genre films such as the “Maniac Cop” series, “Lunatics: A Love Story,” “Moontrap” and “Mindwarp.”<\/p>\n

Campbell then rejoined his Detroit colleagues to star and co-produce the second and third films in the “Evil Dead” trilogy.<\/p>\n

He has since expanded his range on television, appearing in dozens of projects including “Psych,” “Charmed,” “The Legend of Tarzan” and “The X-Files.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
