BEIRUT, 3 March 2026 \u2013\u00a0Families are sleeping in cars, in the street and in damaged schools seeking safety as the number of people displaced in Lebanon rises and with seven children reported killed, Save the Children said. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
About\u00a058,000 people,\u00a0including\u00a0an estimated\u00a016,000\u00a0children\u00a0have been displaced in Lebanon\u00a0in the past three days\u00a0according to the Ministry of Social Affairs\u00a0due to Israeli airstrikes and forced displacement orders.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
With\u00a0media reports of an Israeli\u00a0ground incursion more families are\u00a0fleeing\u00a0their homes.\u00a0[1]\u00a0<\/p>\n
As armed conflict spreads in the wider region,\u00a0Israeli\u00a0strikes have\u00a0reportedly\u00a0killed\u00a040\u00a0people\u00a0including seven children\u00a0in Lebanon\u00a0and a\u00a0further\u00a0246\u00a0injured\u00a0since Saturday.[2]\u00a0[3]\u00a0<\/p>\n
Save the Children is urgently calling for\u00a0a\u00a0cessation\u00a0of hostilities to protect children from further harm. Save the Children\u00a0is\u00a0responding on the ground by\u00a0distributing\u00a0essential items such as\u00a0blankets, mattresses, pillows, baby supplies,\u00a0hygiene\u00a0items\u00a0and water to people that are displaced.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nora Ingdal,\u00a0Save the Children\u2019s Country Director for\u00a0Lebanon, said: \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cOur team is hearing cases of children across Lebanon sleeping in cars, on\u00a0cold\u00a0pavements, and\u00a0in\u00a0partially\u00a0damaged\u00a0classrooms\u00a0with cracks in the walls,\u00a0while\u00a0parents\u00a0are sitting on the side of the streets crying, exhausted\u00a0from\u00a0little sleep\u00a0after\u00a0being\u00a0unable to get into\u00a0proper\u00a0shelters with their children.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThe buildings that they are\u00a0finding and using\u00a0as shelters are places no child should have to sleep in. Some of the schools\u00a0housing families\u00a0have water dripping through the walls\u00a0from broken pipes, and there are no beds.\u00a0These buildings are becoming increasingly crowded are not designed\u00a0to house families.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIn\u00a0the\u00a0south, families\u00a0attempting\u00a0to flee\u00a0are\u00a0stuck\u00a0in huge queues of traffic. The situation is pure chaos for\u00a0those\u00a0on the move.\u00a0Journeys that\u00a0should take an hour are\u00a0now\u00a0taking over\u00a015.\u00a0Parents\u00a0are\u00a0telling\u00a0Save the Children staff\u00a0how\u00a0anxious they feel,\u00a0as they\u00a0smell\u00a0smoke\u00a0and see\u00a0bombs and drones\u00a0loom\u00a0in the sky\u00a0over them. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cI heard a 10-year-old ask her mother \u201cWhy are they attacking us?\u201d Her mother was completely lost for words and unable to give any answer to her child.\u00a0This\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0a question any child should have to ask. \u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of these\u00a0children have been displaced before and\u00a0are completely terrified, families are being forced to relive their trauma and\u00a0have nowhere safe to\u00a0go.\u00a0With\u00a0media\u00a0reports of an Israeli\u00a0ground incursion,\u00a0families are glued\u00a0to the news\u00a0for\u00a0any\u00a0updates,\u00a0but nothing is clear\u00a0at the moment,\u00a0and the future\u00a0remains\u00a0unknown\u00a0for\u00a0millions.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Every\u00a0possible effort\u00a0must now be taken to prevent further escalation and to safeguard children.\u00a0There must be an end to the hostilities. All parties involved in the\u00a0conflict\u00a0must\u00a0uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law. Children must be\u00a0protected at all times.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
