\u201cIt was really challenging. There wasn\u2019t a lot of time for play, but when I did, I played pretty hard,\u201d Lovato said after getting candid about \u201cself-medicating\u201d during the arduous time. <\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, that\u2019s very [expletive],\u201d Palmer replied. \u201cI know we don\u2019t want any of the drama of it, but I feel like people don\u2019t understand that that\u2019s what we was dealing with. You know, I found myself dating \u2014 I\u2019m 15. Why is my boyfriend 20?\u201d <\/p>\n
Lovato interjected, \u201cUh, why was my boyfriend 30? You know what I\u2019m saying?\u201d <\/p>\n
\u201cGirl! Damn!\u201d Palmer exclaimed. \u201cThat is real. We was trying to find outlets, though. A way to process.\u201d<\/p>\n
Both the \u201cHeart Attack\u201d singer, now 33, and Palmer, now 32, went on to lament that \u201cnobody our age could understand\u201d at the time the intricacies of what they and other teen stars were dealing with in the spotlight. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut then when you look back in hindsight \u2014 when I turned 30, I was like, \u2018That\u2019s not OK,\u2019\u201d Lovato added. <\/p>\n
The \u201cOne of Them Days\u201d leading lady told Lovato that it wasn\u2019t until she reached the age of the adults she used to associate with that she realized she was being exploited. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe moment when you realize and you get the age that a lot of people that were around you and doing stuff, it\u2019s almost a mental break that can happen,\u201d she shared. \u201cBecause you realize: \u2018You were taking advantage of [me]. Oh, I was being exploited.\u2019 That was very difficult for me.\u201d<\/p>\n
Palmer recalled making sense of the age gap in her early relationship because of the nature of her job. <\/p>\n
\u201cAt 15, I\u2019m thinking, \u2018My boyfriend\u2019s older because I\u2019m doing an older job. And I\u2019m doing a bunch of things, and this is the way that it is,\u2019\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd it seemed normal in my mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lovato interjected to add: \u201cEspecially if you\u2019re an older soul, too. Especially if you\u2019re mature for your age.\u201d <\/p>\n
Palmer then praised former Disney star Hilary Duff for releasing the vulnerable tune \u201cMature,\u201d in which she reflected on an inappropriate relationship she had with an older man during her youth. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s like, \u2018Oh, shit, we all had the same damn life,\u2019\u201d Palmer said. \u201cWhere people kept telling us, \u2018You\u2019re so mature for your age.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Lovato gushed over Duff\u2019s song before sharing that she released something similar. \u201cI also wrote a song about that. It\u2019s called \u201929,\u2032 and when you listen to it, I think you\u2019ll be able to relate to it.\u201d<\/p>\n
