{"id":321320,"date":"2026-03-04T12:23:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T12:23:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/321320\/"},"modified":"2026-03-04T12:23:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T12:23:09","slug":"ai-may-be-creating-instead-of-destroying-jobs-for-now-ecb-blog-argues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/321320\/","title":{"rendered":"AI may be creating instead of destroying jobs for now, ECB blog argues"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">FRANKFURT, March 4 (Reuters) &#8211; The increasing use of <a href=\"https:\/\/tech.yahoo.com\/ai\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:artificial intelligence;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">artificial intelligence<\/a> by firms may be creating some jobs in \u200cthe euro zone rather than destroying them as \u200cmany fear, a European Central Bank blog post argued on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Economists have been \u200bdebating whether AI could put white collar staff out of work, and a recent study by Germany&#8217;s Ifo Institute found that more than a quarter of German firms expect AI to \u200clead to job cuts \u2060in the next five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">But the ECB&#8217;s own Survey on the Access to Finance of Enterprises \u2060found that companies making significant use of AI are more likely to take on additional staff in the near term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;In \u200bother words, \u200bAI-intensive firms tend, on average, \u200bto hire rather than fire,&#8221; \u200cthe blog post, which is not necessarily the view of the ECB, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">Firms planning to invest in AI are also more likely to have positive expectations for future employment growth, the blog argued.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">&#8220;This is true regardless of the level of \u200cplanned AI investment and suggests that \u200ba pause in hiring due to \u200binvestment in AI technology \u200bis also unlikely over the next year,&#8221; the \u200cblog, written by two ECB \u200bstaff economists, said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"yf-1fy9kyt\">However, \u200bthe outlook may change on the longer horizon, the authors said.
