More information has come to light following the death of Deadliest Catch star Todd Meadows, who tragically lost his life \u2018while doing what he loved\u2019.<\/p>\n

On Monday (2 March), Captain Rick Shelford shared that one of the \u2018newest members of the crew\u2019 had died during filming<\/a> the Discovery Channel show.<\/p>\n

At just 25 years old, the deckhand is said to have passed away on 25 February while onboard the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady.<\/p>\n

Working on the reality TV<\/a> show\u2019s 22nd series, Meadows was out fishing<\/a> for crabs on the Bering Sea, and authorities looking into his death said he \u2018fell overboard\u2019 just after 5pm local time in Alaska.<\/p>\n

The US<\/a> Coast Guard Arctic District is \u2018currently investigating this situation\u2019 as tributes pour in for Meadows. Taking to Facebook<\/a>, Captain Shelford called it the \u2018most tragic day in the history of the Aleutian Lady\u2019.<\/p>\n

Speaking to PEOPLE,<\/a> a spokesperson for the Coast Guard Arctic District said: \u201cCoast Guard watchstanders at the Arctic District command centre in Juneau received notification from the fishing vessel Aleutian Lady, reporting that a crew member by the name of Todd Meadows fell overboard approximately 170 miles north of Dutch Harbor.\u201d<\/p>\n

The statement added that the deckhand was recovered \u2018unresponsive\u2019 by the ship\u2019s crew roughly 10 minutes later.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst aid and attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful, and the crew transported the deceased to Dutch Harbor,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n

With the investigation currently underway, the statement continued: \u201cAs the nation\u2019s leading marine safety organization, the Coast Guard investigates marine casualties and accidents to uncover their causes and initiate necessary corrective actions.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his Facebook post announcing the tragic news, Captain Shelford said Meadows had \u2018quickly became family\u2019 to the crew.<\/p>\n

\"AccordingAccording to Meadows’ Facebook page, he’d been a deckhand on the Aleutian Lady since May 2025 (Discovery)<\/p>\n

\u201cHis love for fishing and his strong work ethic earned everyone\u2019s respect right away. His smile was contagious, and the sound of his laughter coming up the wheelhouse stairs or over the deck hailer is something we will carry with us always,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The deckhand had a wife and three kids, with the captain writing that his love for them and his life was \u2018evident in everything he did\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u201cTodd will forever be part of this boat, this crew, and this brotherhood. Though we lost him far too soon, his legacy will live on through his children and in every memory we carry of him,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

A GoFundMe<\/a> has also been launched for Meadows\u2019 family in a bid to raise money to support his family and assist with funeral expenses.<\/p>\n

It read: \u201cWe are heartbroken to share the sudden passing of Todd Morgan Meadows, a beloved 25-year-old father, son, brother and friend, who left us far too soon while doing what he loved \u2014 crabbing out on Alaskan waters.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was a determined dad to three amazing little boys who were his entire world. Everything he did was for them \u2014 their smiles, their futures, and the memories they will carry with them.\u201d<\/p>\n

A Discovery Channel spokesperson added: \u201cWe are deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Todd Meadows.<\/p>\n
