Netflix has handed out a straight-to-series order for \u201cAlexander,\u201d a new TV series about the relationship between Alexander the Great and his tutor Aristotle.<\/p>\n

\u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d creator Jacob Tierney will write, direct and executive produce the series based on Annabel Lyon\u2019s 2009 novel \u201cThe Golden Mean\u201d.<\/p>\n

In the series, the Athenian empire is crumbling, and the world\u2019s greatest mind, Aristotle, arrives in Macedonia to tutor a volatile young prince, Alexander.<\/p>\n

Amid palace intrigue, forbidden love, brutal war and ruthless ambitions, their unlikely friendship shapes an empire and alters the course of history.<\/p>\n

After his father King Philip II of Macedon passed, Alexander waged a series of military campaigns that resulted in one of the largest empires in history. HIs life was previously adapted for the screen in Oliver Stone\u2019s 2004 film \u201cAlexander\u201d.<\/p>\n

Jinny Howe, head of U.S. and Canada scripted series at Netflix, says: \u201cThis series reimagines the classic power struggle between mentor and prot\u00e9g\u00e9 with a raw, modern energy that feels both epic and incredibly intimate. This high-stakes drama is poised to deeply resonate with our global audience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brendan Brady, Jason Bateman and Michael Costigan will also executive produce. Tierney is readying a second season of \u201cHeated Rivalry\u201d which will shoot this Summer.<\/p>\n
