{"id":325246,"date":"2026-03-06T16:35:09","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T16:35:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/325246\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T16:35:09","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T16:35:09","slug":"lebanon-300000-already-displaced-as-israel-issues-mass-evacuation-orders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/325246\/","title":{"rendered":"Lebanon: 300,000 already displaced as Israel issues mass evacuation orders"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According\u00a0to NRC\u2019s\u00a0estimates,\u00a0300,000\u00a0people have\u00a0already been\u00a0displaced,\u00a0less\u00a0than 100\u00a0hours\u00a0after Israel launched a wave of airstrikes and\u00a0evacuation orders in\u00a0South\u00a0Lebanon,\u00a0Beirut,\u00a0and other\u00a0areas.\u00a0The\u00a0strikes came\u00a0after Hezbollah launched a rocket attack on\u00a0Israel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The new Israeli mass evacuation orders engulf hundreds of villages in South Lebanon,\u00a0as well\u00a0as villages in the Bekaa and the entire southern suburbs of Beirut, constituting a large area of Lebanese territory, with the number of people who could be displaced potentially exceeding one million.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFamilies who had barely begun rebuilding their lives are now forced to flee once again,\u201d said Maureen Philippon,\u00a0country\u00a0director for NRC in Lebanon. \u201cPeople left their homes in the middle of the night with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. Once again, civilians are paying the highest price.\u00a0If\u00a0implemented,\u00a0the\u00a0latest\u00a0evacuation\u00a0orders from\u00a0Israel could\u00a0yet produce\u00a0a humanitarian\u00a0crisis\u00a0unlike anything we\u00a0have seen in\u00a0over\u00a0two years.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to Lebanese authorities,\u00a0more\u00a0than 100\u00a0people have been killed and\u00a0638\u00a0injured since\u00a0Monday,\u00a0with\u00a0more\u00a0than\u00a0529\u00a0Israeli attacks\u00a0recorded\u00a0across the\u00a0country.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Zainab, displaced from South Lebanon,\u00a0told\u00a0NRC, \u201cIt was around three in the morning when we left. We\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0have time to pack anything. We left with the clothes we were wearing and just tried to get the children into the car.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More than\u00a095,000 people are currently staying in collective shelters,\u00a0many of them public schools converted into\u00a0improvised\u00a0emergency accommodation.\u00a0As\u00a0displacement continues, many\u00a0people\u00a0sleep\u00a0in their cars,\u00a0trying to arrange a safe destination. The luckiest ones\u00a0are hosted by relatives or friends\u00a0offering living room sofas\u00a0or\u00a0crowding\u00a0children\u2019s\u00a0rooms.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Israel&#8217;s evacuation orders demanding civilians leave multiple areas of Lebanon raise serious concerns under international humanitarian law, which prohibits the forcible transfer of civilian populations. These orders\u00a0do not appear to have\u00a0military justification and provide no guarantee of safe passage or support for those\u00a0fleeing\u00a0and\u00a0compound the suffering of hundreds of thousands of families. NRC reiterates that all civilians must be protected, including those who choose to remain or are not able to\u00a0relocate\u00a0from these areas.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Children\u00a0remain\u00a0among those most affected.\u00a0With\u00a0schools turned into shelters and families uprooted again, education has been disrupted and children are facing renewed trauma and uncertainty.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe psychological impact of renewed violence cannot be overstated,\u201d Philippon added. \u201cPeople who have already experienced displacement and loss are once again facing fear and uncertainty about what tomorrow will bring.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NRC has launched an emergency response and is distributing\u00a0essential\u00a0items, including mattresses, pillows,\u00a0blankets\u00a0and hygiene kits, to help displaced people meet their most immediate needs.\u00a0The coming days will be critical\u00a0for\u00a0people\u2013 making sure they\u00a0have a place to stay, ensuring privacy,\u00a0in particular for\u00a0women,\u00a0and\u00a0providing support for\u00a0vulnerable people, including those living with disabilities.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NRC calls on all parties to take immediate, concrete steps to de-escalate hostilities and to\u00a0abide by their obligations under international humanitarian law to\u00a0protect civilians and civilian infrastructure. NRC also calls on states with influence to use their diplomatic leverage to ensure these obligations are upheld and to support a credible pathway toward de-escalation and an end to the violence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>NRC\u2019s internal estimates show that 300,000\u00a0people\u00a0at\u00a0least\u00a0are already displaced in Lebanon.
