Huge explosions have hit several locations across Iran, including the capital, Tehran, as the war that has ignited the Middle East<\/a> entered its eighth day.<\/p>\n The United States-Israeli attacks sent up clouds of dark smoke in the Iranian capital early on Saturday, and Tehran retaliated by firing missiles at Israel.<\/p>\n Recommended Stories list of 4 itemsend of list<\/p>\n The US has warned of a forthcoming bombing campaign that officials said would be the most intense yet in the weeklong conflict<\/a>, which has already killed at least 1,230 people and is set to cause further casualties daily.<\/p>\n Much of the region has become embroiled in the war<\/a>, with Tehran not only launching retaliatory strikes on Israel but hitting US assets<\/a> across the Gulf.<\/p>\n Israel\u2019s military said early on Saturday it had started a \u201cbroad-scale wave of strikes\u201d on targets in Tehran.<\/p>\n \u201cIranians are now waking to day eight since the initiation of the US-Israeli air strikes targeting different facilities and places across the Iranian capital and elsewhere in the country,\u201d said Al Jazeera\u2019s Tohid Asadi, reporting from Tehran.<\/p>\n Continuous attacks have been occurring since midnight, he said.<\/p>\n \u201cAccording to the latest reports, Mehrabad, which is one of the two main airports in the Iranian capital, was targeted. The nearby area was said to be affected, as well,\u201d said Asadi.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, attacks have been taking place in other cities across the country \u2013 targeting not just military areas or political centres, but also residential areas, schools and hospitals, he added.<\/p>\n
