Is the best way to make a hater into a fan by giving them free things? Sometimes. Let\u2019s see if it\u2019ll work on Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet<\/a>. The English National Opera invited Chalamet to come see a show via Instagram, after he said<\/a> \u201cno one cares\u201d about opera or ballet anymore. \u201cThis is your official invitation,\u201d the ENO wrote<\/a> in a caption, alongside an image offering a free ticket. \u201cLet\u2019s see if we can change your mind.\u201d The Royal Ballet and Opera also extended an invitation to Chalamet, writing<\/a>, \u201cIf you\u2019d like to reconsider,\u00a0@tchalamet<\/a>, our doors are open.\u201d The Seattle Opera offered<\/a> discounted tickets to anyone interested in checking out a show, including Chalamet. The Met Opera didn\u2019t offer tickets; instead, it highlighted<\/a> the whole team that puts the show together, including the behind-the-scenes crew and performers.<\/p>\n

Chalamet recently said he didn\u2019t want the art of watching movies in theaters to fight to stay in business, but his message might\u2019ve gotten lost in the comparison that followed. \u201cI don\u2019t want to be working in ballet, or opera, or things where it\u2019s like, \u2018Hey, keep this thing alive, even though like no one cares about this anymore.\u2019 All respect to all the ballet and opera people out there,\u201d he explained in an interview with Matthew McConaughey last month. \u201cI just lost 14 cents in viewership. I just took shots for no reason.\u201d It\u2019s a little ironic considering he\u2019s promoting a movie about a man who\u2019s passionate about a niche art form, but it looks like he\u2019s felt this way<\/a> for a long time. Since the original interview, opera singers, ballet dancers, and those who love them have called out the Marty Supreme Oscar nominee<\/a> for his comments, wondering why an artist would speak negatively about the arts. As for how Chalamet has been handling all this, he hasn\u2019t made time to check out a performance. He\u2019s currently<\/a> in Japan, appearing on game shows and slurping on ramen. Fingers crossed his next stop will be the New National Theatre<\/a> in Tokyo.<\/p>\n
