\n\tLauren Montgomery, the director of Paramount and Nickelodeon\u2019s upcoming \u201cLegend of Aang: The Last Airbender\u201d movie, recently took to Instagram (via Games Radar<\/a>) to announce the end of production on the long-awaited project, which marks the first animated feature in the \u201cAvatar\u201d franchise\u2019s history. But fans won\u2019t be able to see \u201cAang\u201d in theaters. Paramount announced last December <\/a>the film\u2019s theatrical release was being pulled in favor of a streaming debut on Paramount+. Montgomery told her followers the movie \u201cdeserves to be seen on a big screen.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c\u2018Aang\u2019 movie is officially wrapped,\u201d Montgomery wrote. \u201cWe screened the final film for the crew and celebrated the end of a four year journey. Now it waits in limbo until its release in October. I\u2019ve never worked on an \u2018Avatar\u2019 project that was easy and this was no different. But it was worth it. I\u2019m so proud of everyone who was a part of this and the amazing thing we built together.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe director continued, \u201cThe movie is amazing!!! That might not mean much coming from the director. I might have some bias, but I feel the need to put that out there. The recent decision to move us from theatrical to streaming might give the impression that the quality wasn\u2019t sufficient, but that couldn\u2019t be farther from the truth. This movie deserves to be seen on a big screen!!! Can\u2019t wait for you all to see it!\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe movie was originally announced under the title \u201cAang: The Last Airbender\u201d and had a theatrical release date set for Oct. 10, 2025. In April 2024, Paramount delayed the movie\u2019s release to Jan. 30, 2026. The official title, \u201cThe Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender<\/a>,\u201d was announced one year later. A third release delay was announced in May 2025, with \u201cAang\u201d moving to an Oct. 9, 2026 theatrical release. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe film\u2019s theatrical release was scrapped last December. The decision to move \u201cThe Legend of Aang\u201d to Paramount+ was announced in tandem with the greenlighting of a new \u201cAvatar\u201d television show, \u201cAvatar: Seven Havens,\u201d also set to stream on Paramount+. The streamer is home to the original \u201cAvatar\u201d series, plus four seasons of \u201cThe Legend of Korra\u201d and\u00a0the 2010 film\u00a0\u201cAvatar: The Last Airbender<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

These additions, alongside\u00a0\u2018The Legend of Korra\u2019\u00a0and the original series, solidify Paramount+ as the destination for the animated Avatar Universe.\u201d <\/p>\n
