\u201cI see a U.S. president who is active, who wants peace\u2026 who wants the Nobel Peace Prize. But the Nobel Peace Prize is possible only if you stop this war,\u201d Macron said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must put pressure on the government of Israel so that they\u2026 stop this war and obtain the release of the 48 hostages,\u201d he continued. \u201cIt\u2019s possible, nothing is pre-ordained.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his own address to the U.N. gathering<\/a> earlier Tuesday, Trump repeated his claim he had \u201cended seven un-endable wars\u201d and that everyone said he \u201cshould get the Nobel Peace Prize.\u201d<\/p>\n

The French president\u2019s comments came as European leaders grow increasingly frustrated with Trump\u2019s apparent reluctance to impose sanctions on Russia over its ongoing invasion of Ukraine or put pressure on Israel to end military operations in the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

Macron in turn has angered the U.S. and Israel with his push to get Western countries to recognize a Palestinian state at the United Nations annual gathering this week. On Monday, Macron himself recognized the Palestinian state<\/a>, after the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada made the same move.<\/p>\n

Trump slammed this wave in favor of recognition as \u201ca reward for these horrible atrocities, including Oct. 7.\u201d<\/p>\n

Trump also said that he was \u201cdeeply engaged\u201d in seeking a ceasefire in Gaza, but that the militant group Hamas had \u201crepeatedly rejected reasonable offers to make peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

In his interview after Trump\u2019s speech, Macron countered that recognizing a Palestinian state was a way to \u201cisolate\u201d Hamas because it bolsters the Palestinian Authority and encourages it to make reforms.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"\u201cI see a U.S. president who is active, who wants peace\u2026 who wants the Nobel Peace Prize.
