DUBAI, March 13 (Reuters) – A major Dubai crypto conference scheduled for the end of April \u200chas been cancelled, the organisers said on Friday, citing “uncertainty in \u200cthe region”.<\/p>\n
The annual TOKEN2049 conference will be “postponed” until April 2027, the organisers said in \u200ba statement on their website, with tickets carried over to next year’s event.<\/p>\n
The U.S. and Israeli war against Iran has caused widespread disruption across the region, putting Dubai’s status as a tourism and business safe-haven at \u200crisk.<\/p>\n
Two drones fell near \u2060Dubai’s main airport on Wednesday, and debris from a successful interception caused minor damage to the facade of \u2060a building in the centre of Dubai, the emirate’s media office said on Friday.<\/p>\n
TOKEN2049’s announcement did not explicitly mention the war but said the decision \u200bwas \u200bbecause of “ongoing uncertainty in the region \u200band its impact on safety, \u200cinternational travel, and logistics.”<\/p>\n
Last year’s event featured U.S. President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump and Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao.<\/p>\n
The United Arab Emirates has become a key location for crypto traders and companies. The world’s largest crypto exchange, Binance, deepened its ties to the UAE last year.<\/p>\n
“Dubai remains \u200cone of the most important hubs for \u200bthe digital asset ecosystem. We remain confident \u200bin the city and its \u200bcontinued leadership as a global center for innovation \u200cand digital assets,” TOKEN2049 said.<\/p>\n
The conference \u200battracts 15,000 attendees, \u200bits website says, and the CEOs of Binance, stablecoin Tether and messenger app Telegram had been due to appear.<\/p>\n
Various sports events in \u200bthe wider region \u200chave also been affected.<\/p>\n
