William Orbit says he\u2019s written a \u201csuccessor\u201d to the classic Madonna<\/a> album \u2018Ray Of Light\u2019, but he\u2019s had \u201cnil response\u201d from her.<\/p>\n

The producer won Grammys<\/a> for his work on the 1999 LP, which won Best Pop Album, while the title single picked up Best Dance Recording.<\/p>\n

Upon its release, the album debuted at Number Two on the US Billboard 200, with the biggest first-week sales by a female artist at the time. It also peaked at Number One in 17 countries.<\/p>\n

Now, he\u2019s revealed that he\u2019s written a full follow-up to the iconic album but, in a post shared to Facebook yesterday (Tuesday March 17), said it is \u201cNOT going to happen\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook, why don\u2019t I just lay it out, cos I get asked constantly,\u201d he wrote. \u201cI have an album ready that imho is indeed the successor to [\u2018Ray Of Light\u2019].\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cEverything about how it was made and how it sounds yells that from the first few bars,\u201d he added. \u201cAnd I reached out. And there has been heard. Nil response. A week later. I speak with many close to her, including fam, but have not had a single syllable back in over two decades.\u201d<\/p>\n

He went on to add that he has previously hinted he is still \u201cpals\u201d with the singer so \u201cnot to ignite a firestorm of speculation\u201d, and that he wishes not to come across as \u201cbitter because in my life and art now I\u2019m finally where I want to be and the very opposite of bitter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cNo idea whatsoever what\u2019s in her head,\u201d he continued. \u201cI believe she is very happy, she looks fabulous and full of life in recent pics I\u2019ve seen, although I don\u2019t really follow. Zero zero absolute zero hard feelings. Are you kidding, I will always love that woman. For real. She made my career,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n

Orbit then went on to add that he\u2019s writing a book that will chronicle his experience in the music industry.<\/p>\n

Last year, Orbit praised a leaked album of Madonna\u2019s unreleased songs and shared his \u201cdream\u201d of the pair working together again<\/a>, and earlier this month, he shared that his Grammy trophies had been damaged in transit by DHL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Madonna is expected to release new music later this year \u2013 confirming in September that she had\u00a0returned to Warner Records and was gearing up to drop a new dance album called \u2018Confessions On A Dance Floor Part 2\u2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The return to Warner came nearly 20 years after the singer first parted ways with the label, having been signed with them for the first 25 years of her career.<\/p>\n

A second part to her 2005 \u2018Confessions On A Dance Floor\u2019 album was\u00a0first hinted at by Madonna in early 2025<\/a>, when she said that she was working on it as a \u201cValentine\u2019s day gift\u201d for fans.<\/p>\n

No official release date has been set yet, although it is expected to arrive later in 2026 and will see her\u00a0reunite with the producer of the original \u2018Confessions\u2026\u2019 album, Stuart Price.\u00a0<\/a>It\u00a0has been\u00a0listed as one of\u00a0NME\u2019s most anticipated albums of the year.<\/a><\/p>\n

It will mark her first LP since 2019\u2019s \u2018Madame X<\/a>\u2018, which was her 14th studio record.<\/p>\n

NME\u00a0spoke to Madonna around the release of \u2018Madame X\u2019<\/a>, and she discussed the experience of being extremely famous. \u201cIt has its pluses and minuses,\u201d she told us. \u201cThe great thing about being famous is that you have a voice and you can spread messages and fight for people who don\u2019t have the ability to fight for themselves, and share your wealth with people who need help.\u201d<\/p>\n

Since then, she\u2019s completed a huge world tour, celebrating the hits from throughout her career. The UK dates of her 2023 \u2018Celebration\u2019 tour featured multiple sold-out stops at The O2 in London \u2013 which were given\u00a0a five-star review by\u00a0NME<\/a>. It described the opening gig as showcasing \u201ca series of spectacular set-pieces referencing iconic highlights from Madonna\u2019s reign\u201d.<\/p>\n
