{"id":347889,"date":"2026-03-19T20:17:07","date_gmt":"2026-03-19T20:17:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/347889\/"},"modified":"2026-03-19T20:17:07","modified_gmt":"2026-03-19T20:17:07","slug":"meta-decides-not-to-kill-horizon-worlds-vr-after-all","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/347889\/","title":{"rendered":"Meta decides not to kill Horizon Worlds VR after all"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The dream of the metaverse may have died for now, but Meta has decided it\u2019s not\u00a0completely giving up on the VR experience in Horizon Worlds, the virtual worlds service that it originally envisioned as the first step toward said metaverse.<\/p>\n<p>The news was announced via the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/stories\/boztank\/3855871525543453750\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Instagram account<\/a> of Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth. \u201cWe have decided, just today in fact, that we will keep Horizon Worlds working in VR,\u201d said Bosworth in an AMA on the platform in response to someone who expressed disappointment at the previously announced plan to end support.<\/p>\n<p>He went on to clarify that only games and experiences that already support VR will continue to do so, while new games will be exclusive to mobile, and the majority of the team\u2019s development focus will be on mobile instead of VR.<\/p>\n<p>In February, Meta <a href=\"https:\/\/arstechnica.com\/gadgets\/2026\/02\/metas-flagship-metaverse-service-leaves-vr-behind\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">announced<\/a> that it would be \u201cshifting the focus of Worlds to be almost exclusively mobile.\u201d It also announced changes to how its marketplace for VR software works, putting all the emphasis on supporting third-party developers in lieu of major first-party development.
