\n\tJimmy Kimmel<\/a> Live returned last night<\/a> after a week-long suspension, much to the delight of the general public. One person who was not a fan, however, was Donald Trump<\/a>. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe president responded to Jimmy Kimmel\u2019s comeback with a rant on Truth Social<\/a>, declaring that he intends to sue the late-night show\u2019s network. \u201cI can\u2019t believe ABC<\/a> Fake News gave Jimmy Kimmel his job back,\u201d Trump wrote. \u201cThe White House was told by ABC that his Show was cancelled! Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his \u2018talent\u2019 was never there.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cWhy would they want someone back who does so poorly, who\u2019s not funny, and who puts the Network in jeopardy by playing 99% positive Democrat GARBAGE. He is yet another arm of the DNC and, to the best of my knowledge, that would be a major Illegal Campaign Contribution. I think we\u2019re going to test ABC out on this. Let\u2019s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers! Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad Ratings.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLast week, ABC and Disney<\/a>\u00a0abruptly suspended<\/a>\u00a0the long-running late-night series, citing an \u201cill-timed and thus insensitive\u201d monologue in which the comedian criticized right-wingers for trying to \u201cscore political points\u201d off the murder of Charlie Kirk. Jimmy Kimmel kept quiet in the days that followed, while\u00a0Hollywood raised its voice on his behalf<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tDuring his monologue last night, Kimmel thanked his many supporters, including \u201cthe people who don\u2019t support my show and what I believe, but support my right to share those beliefs anyway.\u201d He acknowledged, emotionally, that \u201cit was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe host also criticized the Trump administration\u2019s attempts to pull him from the air. \u201cI barely paid attention in school, but one thing I did learn from Lenny Bruce and George Carlin and Howard Stern is that a government threat to silence a comedian the president doesn\u2019t like is anti-American,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd I am so glad we have some solidarity on that from the right and the left and from those in the middle, like Joe Rogan, maybe the silver lining from this is we found one thing we can agree on, and maybe we\u2019ll even find another one. Maybe we can get a little bit closer together.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWith\u00a0Jimmy Kimmel Live<\/a>, FCC chairman Brendan Carr claimed that Kimmel was attempting to push the narrative that Kirk\u2019s shooter \u201cwas somehow a MAGA or Republican-motivated person,\u201d again calling it \u201csick.\u201d Carr\u2019s contributions to the fragmented framing of the monologue allowed the pressure campaign from the Trump administration, as well as conservatives in the media, to take\u00a0deeper root.<\/a> <\/p>\n

\n\tKimmel and Trump have had a long-standing feud, and both often take shots at each other publicly. Last year while hosting the Oscars, Kimmel read one of Trump\u2019s<\/a> Truth Social posts during the ceremony, quipping, \u201cThank you, President Trump. Thank you for watching, I\u2019m surprised you\u2019re still up \u2014 isn\u2019t it past your jail time?\u201d Trump later called Kimmel<\/a> a \u201cdope\u201d and \u201cone of the dumbest human beings ever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tIn April, Kimmel told Rolling Stone<\/a> he enjoys amping Trump up. \u201cI think most comedians have a strong sense of justice, and he violates that so frequently,\u201d Kimmel said. \u201cI know we should be hardened to it by now, but I\u2019m not. It is shocking to me; it seems like a comic-book villain. He seems like the kind of character that would flame out after a few years, but the fact that he\u2019s still with us is remarkable. A year ago, I would\u2019ve said I\u2019m hoping to show people who aren\u2019t paying attention to the news what\u2019s actually going on, and hoping to change things that way.
