{"id":354126,"date":"2026-03-23T17:34:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:34:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/354126\/"},"modified":"2026-03-23T17:34:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T17:34:13","slug":"nkt-cells-a-generalist-in-disease-treatment-and-a-new-key-to-unlock-immunotherapy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/354126\/","title":{"rendered":"NKT cells: a generalist in disease treatment and a new key to unlock immunotherapy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This Review article, which was recently published in the journal <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tandfonline.com\/doi\/full\/10.1080\/1750743X.2025.2525739\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Immunotherapy,<\/a> summarizes the clinical potential of NKT cell-based immunotherapies.<\/p>\n<p>Abstract<\/p>\n<p class=\"last\">NKT\u00a0cells (natural killer T cells) are a subpopulation of specialized T cells that recognize lipid antigens presented by CD1d molecules, which can be classified into type I\u00a0NKT\u00a0cells, type II\u00a0NKT\u00a0cells and\u00a0NKT-like cells.\u00a0NKT\u00a0cells play a key role in linking innate and adaptive immunity. In recent years,\u00a0NKT\u00a0cells have been found to be involved in the development of various systemic diseases, including tumors, respiratory system diseases, autoimmune diseases, reproductive system diseases, gastrointestinal system diseases and liver diseases. Thus, immunotherapy targeting\u00a0NKT\u00a0cells has brought novel strategies for the treatment of cancers and other diseases. Currently,\u00a0NKT\u00a0cell-based immunotherapy includes\u00a0NKT\u00a0cell agonist,\u00a0CAR\u2013NKT\u00a0and\u00a0NKT\u00a0gene editing. Among them, \u03b1-galactosylceramide (\u03b1-GalCer), a\u00a0NKT\u00a0cell agonist, has demonstrated promising applications in enhancing vaccine immunogenicity and anti-tumor immunity. In conclusion, this review systematically summarizes the development, differentiation, classification, and function of\u00a0NKT\u00a0cells, as well as their relationships with systemic diseases. Additionally, this review also emphasizes the prospects for the clinical application of\u00a0NKT\u00a0cell-based immunotherapy.
