The meeting with his father and trip to Ukraine were wins for Harry, but as his transatlantic life becomes more involved, he may face trouble at home. In the past few months, it\u2019s become clear that Harry is being pulled back toward the country \u2014 and the life \u2014 he left behind in 2020 when he and wife of seven years, Meghan, 44, alleged they were bullied by the U.K. press and abandoned the royal family to start over in their $14.6 million home in Montecito, Calif., where they live with son Archie, 6, and 4-year-old daughter Lilibet.<\/p>\n
What that means for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex\u2019s relationship, at least right now, is unclear. \u201cHarry\u2019s been talking about spending more time in the U.K., possibly having a second home base there,\u201d a source tells Star, adding that he\u2019s considered \u201creturning for good.\u201d Meghan, reports the source, has had to face a dawning reality that\u2019s left her \u201cshocked\u201d that her husband \u201cwould even consider moving back to Britain after everything they\u2019ve been through and how much work they\u2019ve done to rebuild their lives in America.\u201d It seems, says the source, \u201cthey want different things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fears For Their Future<\/p>\n
That doesn\u2019t bode well for their marriage. The 41-year-old prince \u201ccan be quite stubborn. Meghan isn\u2019t one to back down either,\u201d says the source. \u201cIf this disagreement can\u2019t be resolved, people around them fear it could lead to some explosive fights and maybe even divorce.\u201d<\/p>\n
The dynamics of the once-united team who did nearly everything together have changed, especially over the last year as they\u2019ve moved forward on what\u2019s been described as \u201ctwin tracks.\u201d Harry\u2019s been focused on his philanthropic initiatives, frequently traveling outside the States to highlight his work. Meanwhile, the former Suits actress has returned to Hollywood, launching a cooking and entertaining show, With Love, Meghan, and a new lifestyle brand, As Ever, with Netflix as a partner this year.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s become a push-pull situation, explains royal biographer Tom Bower. Following Harry\u2019s U.K. trip, the author of Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the War Between the Windsors told told GB News<\/a>, it\u2019s clear Harry and Meghan want different things \u2014 though both depend on their royal connections. \u201cWhen he comes [to Britain], he becomes a focus of attention,\u201d Bower said of Harry\u2019s quasi-royal tours. \u201cBut of course, he is \u2018spare\u2019 to Meghan, or was, in her attempt to become the great television homemaker\u201d back home. \u201cVery cleverly, Harry has separated himself from Meghan, as she did from him, but she still needs him,\u201d explained Bower. After all, there would be no With Love, Meghan if viewers weren\u2019t curious to catch a glimpse into her royal-adjacent life. \u201cAnd so,\u201d says Bower, \u201cyou\u2019ve got this couple in Montecito, desperately looking for a new purpose in life.\u201d<\/p>\n Sucked Back In<\/p>\n Still, making amends with the royal family is a work in progress for Harry. It is hard to do it from far away.\u201d Another unexpected boon came as U.K. reports , including in the traditionally anti-Sussex Daily Mail<\/a>, described Harry\u2019s outings, which drew swarms of supporters, to William\u2019s thinner schedule, \u201cas if what his brother was doing seemed inadequate,\u201d notes the source. \u201cFor once, Harry came out smelling like the rose.\u201d<\/p>\n Huge Shift<\/p>\n So much has changed in just a few months. In May, after losing his yearslong legal appeal against a 2020 government decision stripping him, Meghan and their kids of automatic police protection when they visit Britain, Harry lamented in a headline-making sit-down with BBC News<\/a> that Archie and Lili might never be able to safely return to the country where they are sixth and seventh in line to the throne. \u201cI can\u2019t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the U.K. at this point,\u201d he said, explaining that fears of violence \u2014 he\u2019s received credible threats from Al Qaeda and neo-Nazi groups \u2014 are too great a gamble. \u201cI think that it\u2019s really quite sad that I won\u2019t be able to show my children my homeland.\u201d<\/p>\n MEGA<\/p>\n But in September, asked if he wants to spend more time there and bring his children, he told The Guardian, \u201cYes I would,\u201d admitting, \u201cThis week has definitely brought that closer.\u201d In the year ahead, Harry said, \u201cthe focus really has to be on my dad.\u201d<\/p>\n At A Crossroads<\/p>\n This, says the source, \u201cis what Meghan feared would happen.\u201d The California native hasn\u2019t been back to Britain since Queen Elizabeth II\u2019s 2022 funeral and has no desire to return, says the source. She fawned over Harry in recent social media posts \u2014 upon his return, she shared a photo of two wine glasses being filled with her As Ever ros\u00e9, captioned, \u201cWhen your beau is back in town,\u201d followed by a sexy pic of her husband<\/a> in uniform with the message, \u201cOh hi, Birthday Boy\u201d alongside a fire emoji for his Sept. 15 birthday. But the source says she\u2019s \u201cupset\u201d and doesn\u2019t want Harry taking their kids to England \u201cwhere they aren\u2019t safe.\u201d In the U.S., says the source, \u201cthey have a sheltered life, good schools, friends, protection. Meghan has already put her foot down to going back to a family that treated her so abominably.\u201d<\/p>\n Instagram\/Meghan Markle<\/p>\n Clearly they are at an historic crossroads \u2014 one of the first American-born royals continues to fight moving back to her husband\u2019s homeland. \u201cNo one is denying Harry and Meghan love each other, but they don\u2019t see eye to eye,\u201d says the source. \u201cShe\u2019s all for Harry making up with his family so long as they keep their life in California and raise their children here.
