{"id":355823,"date":"2026-03-24T16:38:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-24T16:38:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/355823\/"},"modified":"2026-03-24T16:38:23","modified_gmt":"2026-03-24T16:38:23","slug":"adolescence-dominates-2026-bafta-tv-award-nominations-television","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/il\/355823\/","title":{"rendered":"Adolescence dominates 2026 Bafta TV award nominations | Television"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Adolescence, Jack Thorne\u2019s groundbreaking drama about a teen accused of murder, has been nominated for more 2026 TV Bafta awards than any other show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Described by the Guardian as \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/mar\/13\/adolescence-review-the-closest-thing-to-tv-perfection-in-decades\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the closest thing to TV perfection in decades<\/a>\u201d, the Netflix psychological crime drama leads the pack with 11 nominations, including best supporting actor and actress awards for four of its stars, Ashley Walters, Christine Tremarco, Erin Doherty and Owen Cooper.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Created by Thorne and Stephen Graham, and directed by Philip Barantini, the drama was also nominated for Bafta\u2019s memorable moment award, the only honour voted for by members of the public, for the scene where Jamie snaps at the psychologist.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Jane Millichip, CEO of Bafta, said: \u201c2025 [was] an exceptional year for television, reflected in 124 nominated programmes that highlight the strength and originality of British storytelling.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cFrom powerful documentaries and standout comedy to homegrown drama and the international series that captured global attention, this year\u2019s nominees demonstrate a medium at its creative peak,\u201d she said. \u201cIt\u2019s especially exciting to see so many first\u2011time performance nominees, showcasing the vibrant new talent shaping the future of our industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What It Feels Like For a Girl star Ellis Howard is nominated for leading actor.<br \/> Photograph: Hera Pictures\/BBC<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">First-time nominees include Ellis Howard (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/may\/30\/all-of-us-felt-like-we-had-touched-gold-what-it-feels-like-for-a-girl-the-bbcs-electric-coming-of-age-tale\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">What It Feels Like for a Girl<\/a>) and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/may\/08\/stephen-graham-recognised-me-from-nandos-how-james-nelson-joyce-became-tvs-hottest-rising-star\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">James Nelson-Joyce<\/a> (This CityIs Ours), who are both up for best leading actor, as well as best leading actress nominee Narges Rashidi (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/nov\/23\/prisoner-951-review-narges-rashidi-joseph-fiennes-nazanin-zaghari-ratcliffe\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prisoner 951<\/a>). Rafael Math\u00e9 also gets his first Bafta nod for best supporting actor for the adaptation of Nick Cave\u2019s novel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/nov\/20\/the-death-of-bunny-munro-review-matt-smith-nick-cave-novel-adaptation-sky-now\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Death of Bunny Munro<\/a>, alongside Owen Cooper for Adolescence, while Chyna McQueen receives her first for best supporting actress in crime drama <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/mar\/05\/get-millie-black-review-every-bit-as-great-as-a-caribbean-true-detective\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Get Millie Black<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Aimee Lou Wood (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/the-white-lotus\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The White Lotus<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/oct\/07\/film-club-review-aimee-lou-wood-nabhaan-rizwan\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Film Club<\/a>) and Erin Doherty (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2026\/jan\/09\/a-thousand-blows-season-two-review-disney\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A Thousand Blows<\/a>, Adolescence) both have double nominations, while Rose Ayling-Ellis \u2013 who won the breakthrough star award in 2022 \u2013 is up for best supporting actress for British Sign Language thriller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/apr\/07\/reunion-review-this-excellent-british-sign-language-thriller-is-an-absolute-revelation\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Reunion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A Thousand Blows scooped seven nominations. Photograph: Robert Viglasky<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/feb\/21\/a-thousand-blows-review-the-irresistible-new-boxing-drama-from-the-peaky-blinders-creator\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A Thousand Blows<\/a>, a historical drama series created by Steven Knight and based on the Forty Elephants, an all-female crime syndicate, received seven nominations, including drama series, leading actress and costume design.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2022\/nov\/22\/andor-how-a-star-wars-deep-cut-became-one-of-the-best-tv-shows-of-the-year\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Andor<\/a>, a politically charged, slow-burn thriller set in the Star Wars world, received six nominations including costume design, director: fiction and graphic effects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/nov\/09\/trespasses-review-an-intoxicating-rousing-and-heartbreaking-love-story\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trespasses<\/a>, an adaptation of Louise Kennedy\u2019s masterly novel, set in 70s Belfast, also received six nominations for limited drama, costume design, director: fiction and writer: drama.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/nov\/06\/the-celebrity-traitors-final-review-what-an-absolute-blinder\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Celebrity Traitors<\/a> received five nominations for presenter Claudia Winkleman and the tear-filled, traitorous performance of comedian Alan Carr, faithful Joe Marler, self-effacing strategist Nick Mohammed, and Celia Imrie, whose comedic, candid moments became highlights.<\/p>\n<p>Lucy Punch in Amandaland. It is also nominated for best scripted comedy along with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/feb\/09\/big-boys-series-three-review-channel-4-sitcom\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Big Boys<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/oct\/03\/how-are-you-its-alan-partridge-review-steve-coogan\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">How Are You? It\u2019s Alan (Partridge) <\/a>and Lucia Keskin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2026\/jan\/20\/things-you-should-have-done-series-two-review-bafta-winning-comedy-bbc-three-iplayer\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Things You Should Have Done.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Louis Theroux picked up a nomination in the best documentary category for his BBC film<a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/apr\/27\/the-settlers-review-this-vital-film-forces-louis-theroux-to-do-something-hes-never-done-before\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> The Settlers<\/a>, while Channel 4\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/tv-and-radio\/2025\/jul\/03\/gaza-doctors-under-attack-review-channel-4-crucial-film-stuff-of-nightmares\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gaza: Doctors Under Attack<\/a> \u2013 which the BBC pulled out of airing \u2013 is up for best current affairs programme.<\/p>\n<p>Rose Ayling-Ellis in Reunion.
