Samsung will officially start rolling out AirDrop support over Quick Share on Galaxy S26 devices throughout this week but, personally, I\u2019m really curious as to why it\u2019s being disabled by default.<\/p>\n

On Sunday night, Samsung confirmed plans to start rolling out AirDrop support on Galaxy S26 over Quick Share, a feature that first arrived on Google\u2019s Pixel 10 series<\/a> as a complete surprise late last year.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s great news, in part because it\u2019s the first expansion beyond Pixel devices and a show that, not only can more devices support this, but that Google seems pretty confident Apple isn\u2019t going to kill this functionality somehow. <\/p>\n

So why is it not enabled for everyone?<\/p>\n

On Google Pixel devices, AirDrop support over Quick Share is live right away, as soon as the feature arrives on the device. On Samsung Galaxy devices, it needs to be turned on via a toggle found in Settings > Connected Devices > Quick Share > Share with Apple Devices.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a very strange choice on Samsung\u2019s part. The company explained that the addition of AirDrop support is \u201cpart of Samsung\u2019s ongoing efforts to improve compatibility across operating systems,\u201d which seems to directly go against the idea of leaving it turned off by default. Given the fact that both parties need to switch to \u201cEveryone\u201d mode for this to work in the first place, \u201csecurity\u201d seems to be an unlikely explanation as well.<\/p>\n

The idea of having a toggle in general is probably a good idea, but having the ability to turn if off rather than the requirement to turn it on seems like the smarter play.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m sure there\u2019s an explanation for this, but it just doesn\u2019t feel like it makes any sense. What do you think?<\/p>\n
