Since the CSA released Aliro 1.0<\/a>, the floodgates have opened for smart lock manufacturers to release solutions that require only a simple tap to unlock. Nuki just announced the Keypad 2 NFC, which adds that function to a lock you might already have.<\/p>\n The Keypad 2 NFC from Nuki<\/a> looks unassuming. On the surface, it\u2019s just a numerical keypad with a fingerprint reader that one can place anywhere near a compatible smart lock. That\u2019s nothing new.<\/p>\n What\u2019s new is the added NFC reader under the keypad in this welcome redesign, allowing Nuki\u2019s Keypad 2 NFC to unlock its paired lock with a simple tap, just like a quick tap used to pay with a credit card.<\/p>\n The keypad is Aliro-certified, which is the new lock standard the CSA has developed to integrate secure standardized communication across different smart home ecosystems. It\u2019s from the same group that implemented Matter, meaning the devices it works with will work with other Matter devices in your home.<\/p>\n \tAdvertisement – scroll for more content<\/p>\n Nuki says<\/a> the lock works with Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings, though the Aliro standard suggests other wallet apps will have access in the future. Samsung recently announced the addition of Digital Home Keys in Samsung Wallet<\/a>, adding the capability to Galaxy devices in supported regions.<\/p>\n Nuki has not noted that Google Wallet is under consideration, though the company said this at request for comment:<\/p>\n The Aliro standard itself is still in a very early stage. There will be continuous improvements in the future and Nuki is constantly working with wallet providers to enhance interoperability.<\/p>\n Google Wallet is in line to support Aliro smart locks, but the company has yet to fully roll out support, unlike Samsung. When that happens, existing devices may begin to support Google Wallet\u2019s own digital keys.<\/p>\n The Keypad 2 NFC needs a compatible Nuki Matter-enabled lock to function, so users will need to have an installed Smart Lock from the company. Users will also need a compatible hub to connect the device to Matter. The lock itself is Matter compatible as a standalone product, but this new Keypad 2 option, since it uses Aliro for contactless unlocking, is a little more restricted in use for the time being. That may change in the near future.<\/p>\n If you don\u2019t use one of those wallet apps, the Nuki app provides NFC access, as well. That\u2019s on top of code and fingerprint access, if you want to go old-school.
