Martin Kemp has announced he is stepping down from his presenting role on Greatest Hits Radio\u2019s Mix Tape programme after five years.<\/p>\n

The 64-year-old Spandau Ballet star shared the news during this morning\u2019s broadcast, confirming his final show will air on April 4.<\/p>\n

His departure marks the end of an era for weekend listeners who have tuned in to hear his favourite tracks and personal anecdotes.<\/p>\n

Jenny Powell has been confirmed as his successor and will take over from April 10.<\/p>\n

She will present the show every Friday and Saturday evening from 7pm.<\/p>\n

Mr Kemp said his decision was driven by an increasingly busy schedule.<\/p>\n

“I’ve had an incredible run on Greatest Hits Radio but it’s time to let someone else share their Mix Tapes with the nation,” he said.<\/p>\n

The former EastEnders actor, who rose to fame in the 1980s with Spandau Ballet, pointed to his touring commitments as a key factor.<\/p>\n

He added: “I’ve got a busy year ahead with my Back to the 80s live shows, so now is the right time to step back and I know I’m leaving the listeners in safe hands with Jenny.”<\/p>\n

Ms Powell said she was thrilled to be taking on the role, welcoming the move from early mornings to evening broadcasts.<\/p>\n

“I’m so excited! I’ve loved waking up with the Breakfast Club listeners on weekend mornings, but time for a change,” she said.<\/p>\n

“I’m going to be swapping my early morning alarm calls and turning up the volume on Friday and Saturday nights for the iconic Mix Tape show!<\/p>\n

“Can’t wait to share the music and big energy with everyone!”<\/p>\n

The 57-year-old, who previously hosted BBC Two\u2019s No Limits, will broadcast live from the station\u2019s Manchester headquarters.<\/p>\n

Her television credits also include presenting Wheel of Fortune and working as a competition presenter on Daybreak.<\/p>\n

Andy Ashton, Content Director at Greatest Hits Radio, thanked Mr Kemp for his contribution to the station.<\/p>\n

“I want to say a huge thank you to Martin for being such a big part of our station over the last five years and for sharing his stories and favourite weekend anthems with our listeners,” he said.<\/p>\n

He added Mr Kemp would remain involved with the station.<\/p>\n
