New crime drama A Taste for Murder has confirmed a release date for this spring. The ITV show<\/a> features Downton Abbey’s Phyllis Logan, and comes from Matt Baker \u2013 who co-created Professor T.<\/p>\n

Viewers wanting to catch the Italy-set series will be able to watch all six episodes from Wednesday 13 May on ITVX.<\/p>\n

The show focuses on DCI Joe Mottram (played by Trigger Point’s Warren Brown), who heads to the island of Capri to help reconnect with his teenage daughter (Beau Gadsdon) following the death of his wife.<\/p>\n

There, they are met with open arms by his late spouse’s parents Elena Da Vinale (Logan) and Chef Gennaro (Urbano Barberini), who run a seaside restaurant. <\/p>\n

While Joe is on a sabbatical, things take a twist when a local man’s body is found on the beach, and Gennaro’s nephew is arrested on suspicion of murder.<\/p>\n

Joe then gets involved and clashes with local Inspector Lara Sarrancino (Cristiana Dell’Anna), before they form “a grudging partnership, solving a variety of unusual crimes on the island”.<\/p>\n

“Along the way, Joe learns to cook, and his exploration of Italian dishes provides insights and clues into the crimes he is investigating,” the synopsis adds. “His lessons with Gennaro and Elena in the kitchen ultimately help him to become a better cook, father and detective.<\/p>\n

“As the investigations deepen, the idyllic veneer of the island cracks, exposing a web of deception that forces Joe to confront a truth he never saw coming \u2013 and which turns his world upside down.”<\/p>\n

Baker previously said that the series looks at “the difficulties of maintaining loving relationships when coping with trauma and grief”, as well as “a series of outlandish murders that are very much the product of the beautiful Mediterranean island on which the series is set”.<\/p>\n

“Combining crime and cooking, as well as British ingenuity and Italian passion, it has been a genuine pleasure to write,” he added.<\/p>\n

A Taste for Murder also features Barbarians’s Alessandro Fella as Luca, The Equalizer 3’s Gaia Scodellaro as Daria and Those About to Die’s Alessandro Bedetti as Daniele.<\/p>\n

A Taste for Murder will premiere on Wednesday 13 May on ITVX.<\/p>\n
