Israel\u2019s defense minister said Thursday that Iranian navy chief Alireza Tangsiri, the commander overseeing Tehran\u2019s blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, has been killed.<\/p>\n
Defense Minister Israel Katz said Tangsiri was \u201cdirectly responsible\u201d for the effective closure of the strait and had been \u201cblown up.\u201d He said several other senior navy officers were also killed.<\/p>\n
The announcement came as a leading global policy group warned that the blockade is \u201craising costs, weighing on demand and adding to inflationary pressures\u201d worldwide.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran has been \u201cmilitarily obliterated\u201d and claimed Iranian negotiators have been \u201cbegging\u201d to make a deal. Iran has denied that any talks with Washington are underway.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, an Iranian official outlined five conditions to end the war, following reports that Tehran had received a 15\u2011point proposal from the United States. On Thursday, Trump renewed his criticism of NATO allies on social media, saying they have \u201cdone absolutely nothing to help with\u201d the crisis in Iran.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere, regional attacks continued, including strikes in Iran and Lebanon. In Abu Dhabi, two people were killed by debris from an intercepted missile believed to have originated in Iran.<\/p>\n
