\n\tWhen Elle Chapman showed up to audition for \u201cThe Madison<\/a>,\u201d she immediately regretted her choice of attire. The character was a twentysomething wealthy Manhattanite named Paige, which the room full of \u201cblonde actresses I\u2019ve grown up watching\u201d interpreted as all-black ensembles. Chapman, meanwhile, has always loved tailoring, and wanted to bring that to the character.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI showed up in this tailored light blue dress with matching blue heels and a tiny blue purse,\u201d she recalls. \u201cAnd I walked in and I saw everyone and I was like, \u2018Oh, I\u2019m wearing the wrong thing.\u2019\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tNot only was the look a hit \u2014 and in fact, the wardrobe designer took inspiration from it when developing the character\u2019s look \u2014 but Chapman beat out the rest of the room to land the role. The show\u2019s creator, Taylor Sheridan, called her personally to offer her the part.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt was a moment I will never forget. I think I said, \u2019Are you joking?\u2019 And he was like, \u2018No, I\u2019m not f\u2013king joking,\u2019\u201d she says.<\/p>\n

\n\tChapman is the newcomer in the cast of \u201cThe Madison,\u201d starring alongside Michelle Pfeiffer,<\/a> Kurt Russell, Patrick J. Adams <\/a>and Beau Garrett in the new drama that follows the Clyburns, a New York family who head to Montana after an unexpected death in the family. Chapman and Garrett play sisters grieving the loss of their father, which Chapman immediately resonated with.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI lost my father when I was young, and I have a big family of women. And I feel like the way it affected my family in some ways mirrored what you see in the Clyburns,\u201d Chapman says. \u201cWhen I read the script, I was like, \u2018Oh man,\u2019 it just felt so close to the heart.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tChapman, 26, has wanted to work on a Sheridan project since she watched his show \u201c1883\u201d while researching a role.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cOnce I started watching Taylor Sheridan, I completely fell in love with his writing. It feels very heartfelt,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tShe remembers telling a wrangler on that earlier project how much she wanted to work for Sheridan, and him reassuring her it would happen someday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe looked at me and he was like, \u2018Taylor would love you. Trust me, you\u2019ll work for him,\u2019\u201d Chapman says. \u201cAnd then I wrapped that movie and four months later I got an audition for \u2018The Madison.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tChapman was born in Alexandria, Va., and, due to her father\u2019s job as a diplomat, moved to New York, Turkey and the Netherlands as a kid. When her father was diagnosed with brain cancer when she was 11, the family moved back to the U.S., where she would start her acting career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI remember watching \u2018Princess Bride\u2019 [growing up] and I just thought Princess Buttercup was so beautiful and ethereal,\u201d she says. \u201cI was like, \u2018I want to do that. I want to be in that movie.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHer first brush with fame was appearing in a Bad Bunny music video, which garnered the attention of an agent. Not long after, she appeared in her first movie, \u201cA Man Called Otto.\u201d The part was originally supposed to be as an extra, but she ended up sharing a scene with none other than Tom Hanks.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cAs I\u2019m getting mic\u2019d up, I look over and Tom Hanks is getting mic\u2019d up right next to me,\u201d she says. \u201cI was so nervous, but he was the nicest guy ever. I told him, \u2018This is my first thing.\u2019 And he\u2019s like, \u2018you are a total pro. You\u2019re doing great.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tChapman will be back for Season Two of \u201cThe Madison,\u201d which has already been shot, though a release date is yet to be announced.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201c[Paige] is so interesting to me to play because I think on the surface, she seems very image focused and sometimes bratty and a little bit out of touch. But I think when you get to know her, you realize she just feels things at 100 percent and she loves at 100 percent.
