(KABC) &#8212; People hitting trails across Southern California are being warned to watch out for rattlesnakes following the death of a second person who was bitten.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">According to a <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2026-03-25\/second-fatal-rattlesnake-bite-on-southern-california-hiking-trail\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">report from the Los Angeles Times<\/a>, a 46-year-old woman from Moorpark died after she was bit by a rattlesnake while hiking at Wildwood Regional Park on March 14.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Since then, Ventura County fire officials have received four reports of rattlesnake bites, including a <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/post\/teen-rescued-being-bitten-rattlesnake-wendy-trail-head-newbury-park\/18750099\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">teenage girl who was rescued from the Wendy Trail in Newbury Park<\/a>, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Earlier this month, a <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7.com\/post\/julian-hernandez-death-25-year-old-costa-mesa-man-dies-weeks-rattlesnake-bite-biking-irvine-family-seeks-answers\/18708085\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">25-year-old Costa Mesa man died a month after being bitten by a rattlesnake<\/a> while biking in Irvine.<\/p>\n<p>The family of a 25-year-old Costa Mesa man is demanding answers after he died following a rattlesnake bite suffered while mountain biking in Irvine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Here are some things to keep in mind before your trek into nature:<\/p>\n<p>Stay on marked trails and don&#8217;t venture into high grass, where you might run into a rattlesnake.<br class=\" \"\/>Pay attention to your surroundings, and if you see a rattlesnake, take a few steps back to get out of striking distance.<br class=\" \"\/><br class=\" \"\/>If you are bitten, stay calm and call 911.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Andrew Dowd with the Ventura County Fire Department says there are some things you shouldn&#8217;t do.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">&#8220;We don&#8217;t suck the venom out anymore. That&#8217;s not a practice that we do. We don&#8217;t want you to put restrictive bands or tourniquets or anything like that&#8230; try to just lay still as much as possible until help arrives,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Also, do not pack the bite area with ice.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">According to the <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/wildlife.ca.gov\/Conservation\/Reptiles\/Rattlesnake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">California Department of Fish and Wildlife<\/a>, California is home to seven species of rattlesnakes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Rattlesnakes typically avoid people and bites are considered rare.
