Sphinx, the “chilling” psychological drama hailing from the Netherlands, is now available to stream<\/a> for free in the UK. With just six episodes, this could be your next binge-watch over the weekend.<\/p>\n

The Dutch-language series begins with the kidnapping of a 14-year-old girl, Minke, but that’s only part of the story. Three years later, Minke returns to her hometown with a mysterious tattoo on her back, and is seemingly still influenced by her captor.<\/p>\n

After being released in its native country in 2024, Sphinx is now available to stream in the UK with subtitles on Channel 4<\/a>, with the series being added to the service under the Walter Presents label.<\/p>\n

Created, co-written and directed by Diederik van Rooijen, the cast for the six-part mystery drama includes Rifka Lodeizen, Marcel Hensema, Sallie Harmsen, Andrea Vass, Ruth Becquart and Benja Bruijning.<\/p>\n

The series has received a positive response from viewers since its premiere, with IMDb<\/a> currently reporting an impressive average user rating of 7.0\/10 from 898 logs. In a 8\/10 review, one viewer<\/a> praised the “amazing” drama and “superb cast”.<\/p>\n

“This is far from an easy watch, but one can’t help watching as the layered plot turns and twists. Characters are all full-fledged, so you connect with them, following either their pain or confusion,” they added.<\/p>\n

A second viewer<\/a> was more mixed in their assessment as they awarded it 6\/10, opining: “Sphinx presents itself as a gripping mystery set against the backdrop of Limburg but falls short of its promise due to its overrated status and lack of originality.”<\/p>\n

“While the premise of the series is intriguing, the execution often feels derivative, borrowing heavily from established tropes and plot devices seen in similar productions. As a result, it struggles to distinguish itself in a genre saturated with similar offerings,” they added.<\/p>\n

“Sphinx may offer a passable diversion for fans of the mystery genre… The cinematography and score contribute to the overall atmosphere, creating an immersive viewing experience that manages to hold attention, albeit fleetingly,” they concluded.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere in the Walter Presents collection, which is overseen by television producer Walter Iuzzolino, there are other popular foreign-language series’ including French mystery drama<\/a> The Eclipse and Polish police procedural<\/a> Crusade.<\/p>\n
